Somewhere I read it's better to go a certain direction on this road.  East to west??  Better scenery I guess....
Any clue or advise?
Thanks

"winemkr" lives up in that area. He's the steward if a beautiful I/S and came all the way to Tucson last febuary to ride. He's, a great guy and a long leg rider. I'll bet he knows that road well.

I rode it west to east and it was stunning.

If you have time go take a look at the lodges.

A friend of mine was killed on that road last year. An Indian lady crossed the center line on a curve and hit him head-on.  She had been drinking.  A terrible waste of a great guy, business man, and family man.

2944;
I prefer east to west because it keeps me away from the guard rails; too many cagers
are not paying attention and drift over the centerline. By the way, going to the
sun just opened up on 7/13...heard theres still lots of snow up there. If you
have never been there it absolutely beautiful !! If you have, well its still beautiful.
Enjoy !!!!

It's beautiful no matter which way, but agree with other poster, east to west keeps you away from the guardrail. I highly recommend that if you go, go up to Many Glacier area. Go to Babb & make a left, you will not be disappointed. Then come back out & down to St. Mary & thru the park. Logan Pass can still be nasty.

Shoot, go both ways. Make sure you go to Waterton Park in Canada, too.

I agree with all the above posts. My wife and I did that a few years ago as part of a honeymoon trip, what an experience. We flew into Kalispell and did the west to east run, I drove with her practically in my lap due to the drop-off to her right. It was the first week of July and there was still snow in some areas, and coming down the east side ran into a snow storm.

We were married on July 5th in front of a waterfall near East Glacier. Married by a lady Blackfoot Tribal Judge, used the Blackfoot ceremony, not a religious one but very spiritual. My wife is part Cherokee so seemed rather fitting. Following that, we headed up into Canada, first stop was Waterton...beautiful place. We went back into the wilds while staying there and did some hiking. When we returned to the car, a ranger asked where we had been. After showing him on his map, we were informed a mama grizzly and two cubs were spotted in that area and she had attacked a couple in their car.

We were just out there last year right about this time of year. Going East to West puts you in the INSIDE lane and visa versa the other direction. If the wifey gets paranoid of heights you will want to go East to West .... the retaining walls are only about a foot high !!
