sorry, I didn't know I was being graded on spelling and grammer on here... You will only be graded when you are complaining that education is much worse now than when you were in school. At least help your case by showing you were better educated!

I've noticed that those who make fun of spelling within posts have really nothing else to add to the conversation. I misspell regularly, and it's usually due to poor typing skills, so I assume it to be the same for others and never allow it to interfere with the subject and/or the persons thoughts on a subject. Guess it's easier to make fun than agree.

It's pertinent to the conversation when someone who is decrying the state of education in America does not themselves seem to posses a firm grasp of the English language. Not knowing the difference between "their" and "they're" or "than" and "then" is not a simple spelling error or typo.

Since you are a self proclaimed expert on everything your opinion means very little to me. Go defend someone else, I'm sure bobbo doesn't need your help. He seems to be well spoken enough and although I don't agree with his comment I understand it. You don't even know what my comments meant.

sorry, I didn't know I was being graded on spelling and grammer on here... then again, its just your opinion of how serious I'm taken... and if you have anvil on your side I'm not really concerned..... Are spelling and gramm ar not part of education? Most web browsers have spell check. It would seem you have yours disabled. I don't usually criticize other people's spelling because mine is not perfect. But since you're on the topic, I'd like to point out you misspelled "Brooklyn" when commenting on selling the bridge.

What are the chances Bobbo and/or Anvil would show up at InZane to meet the peons that they so openly criticize and argue with? I truly doubt that they would, without a keyboard to hide behind Black Dog

I truly doubt that they would, without a keyboard to hide behind Black Dog I have to defend Bobbo on this one. I have had many terrific "conversations" with him, especially over the past year or so. He will always explain his position and or arguments with clarity and, usually, with respect. I understand that he was pointing out irony, on this one.
Anvil, on the other hand, I don't know what his deal is, nor do I care any longer. His snide, disrespectful comments demonstrate his maturity and inability to have meaningful give and take. I have put him in the same class as Strong Eagle and will try to stay away from threads he is involved in. Disagree all you want with someone's thoughts and opinions (I do it all the time), but being respectful when you do it demonstrates true intelligence and class.

I truly doubt that they would, without a keyboard to hide behind Black Dog The chances of me showing up at InZane (how'd it get that name anyway?) are zero but it has nothing to do with that. No, I pretty much talk this way to anyone and everyone. It comes off differently in person but the comments are essentially the same. I have no reason to fear being frank and honest with anyone. And no I totally spelled Brooklyn wrong and I do it regularly. I know like eleven women named Lynne or Lynn and I used to live right next to a town named Lynn. Conscience is another word I have a regular problem with (but I got it right that time, go figure).

I truly doubt that they would, without a keyboard to hide behind Black Dog I attended the first four InZane rallies, back when they were hosted by Lamont (LaMonster) in Zanesville, OH. Had a great time. My limited vacation time doesn't allow me to go to much else these days, since I ride with a group that does a 9-12 day ride every year. I may criticize a post I disagree with, and only criticize the poster if I'm personally criticized first. I certainly don't hide behind a keyboard, and would say the same thing in a face to face conversation. This scenario is unlikely to come up, since most face to face conversations don't include forwarded chain emails, or propaganda blog links...

It also works both ways. For instance, in mixed company I'm willing to be that people are less likely to start a conversation with a lament over the dilution of the white race.

I spent over forty years having to turn in perfect spelling and grammar (school and work), and did so to the best of my ability.
On forums and emails I just let it rip. I get my message across, and don't care what naysayers think....... at all.

Wow. Just came back to visit this post from yesterday. Seems we got a bit off topic. The tone that is spread through emails and posts can be taken in a much different manner than was intended and, if you care, you should be aware of that. My dad and sister are lawyers so I had to argue for everything when I was a kid and justify my every decision but I learned to appreciate others passion for what they believe and came to know that learning and integrating other's points keeps us from growing stagnant and maladjusted. Have you ever heard the saying "The less you know, the more you know."? Anyway, I argued against the original post to a friend of mine today and he got pissed. He said I should go start my own p*ssy, socialist, baseball league. Kinda funny but not the rebuttle I was hoping for. He did bring up some great points on the matter of rules and evolution and integrity. Needless to say I reflected on his emotion and learned something.

My question is...why not get rid of the 1st baseman...put him on the bench. What ever happened to "if you aren't good enough to make the team, you can't play." I don't believe in letting every kid that comes out for a team play. Political correctness has killed our country. Well I think you are right on in the first post about individual accomplishments. This thread seems to be going the way of utilititarian vs. libertarian. Are the individual accomplishments of one child more important than the greater good of keeping the game close and giving both teams a chance to win? I'm not here to argue either side. However we don't know alot of the story and all to often ignorance and lack of facts leads to hanging someone (in this case a little league umpire). I coach and have played baseball and football and can tell you that some games should be lopsided, and some really shouldn't. Say you've got a really bad first baseman that can't catch the ball. You can have an all-star infield but they can't keep hits from coming in. Should they be punished for the first basemans ineptitude? If we are identifying idividuals for their strengths and weaknesses this can be traumatising for some. Have you ever had to cheer up the worst kid on the team or keep order within a team of widely varying abilities? It sucks. Sometimes equity (not equality) and anonymity are what these kids need. And please, try not to latch onto the idea that everyone has a socialist or conservative agenda. It really doesn't apply.

My suggestion is to ban parents from the game and let the children play.
Let the kids ref their own game, worked for us when we played on pickup teams.

My experience is that there is generally 2 different types of programs available in most communities when it comes to youth sports.
The first type is an instructional program. Typically, everyone (specific to age group) can play and by rule usually have minimum playing times per game. Tryouts may be used but only to gauge the skill of the players to properly draft a team. But all are on a team. And this is instructional not only for players, but coaches and umpires as well.
The other type is competitive. Typically, anyone can try out but only the best will make the team. You might even have to pay to tryout and then not make the team. There are generally no minimum playing time rules. If you don't perform, you don't play. This league sees cursed fine players and coaches and great umpires.
Obviously, kids that don’t have the skills to play are found in the instructional type of leagues. They can’t learn how to play sitting on the bench. So while folks can claim that some of the rules and regulations smack of socialism, the objective of the instructional league is to teach the kid, whose parents paid good money to have the kid in the league to learn to play, how to play the game. Normally as the age groups get older, the competitiveness of the league increases.
Both types of programs are perfectly fine. Umpired in both type of leagues. You just have to understand, going in, what the objectives are in the league you are in. Teaching a group of kids of widely various skills how to play the game or expecting a group of kids, with great skills that know how to play the game, to win at it.
