My brother sent me this old photo and I thought I'd share it.
On the right is my grandfather, beside him is my grandmother and 4th from the right is my great-grandmother.  GGM also owned a bar - tough old bird!  This was taken in Belgium I'm guessing in the late 30's early 40's.

They were and they were made by either Good Year or Firestone.
Also, they had some tread life in them.     

Maybe the lack of horse power helped there.

Nice to have old pics like that.  Would like to have known your GGM.  Just so you know, Belgium was occupied by Germany in May, 1940 - 1944, so pic was probably taken in the 30's.

I think you are correct about the late 30's. 
It was uncertain what would happen when the Germans started their invasion on Belgium, so GGM loaded up the car with ciggy's and alcohol and bartered their way out of Belgium trading for gas and food. 
I guess that would make her crafty or resourceful as well cooldude
