Wiring Up A ZUMO

Where did you get power for your Zumo?  Would it be Ok to splice into the dash lights (I/S) or  something along that line?  I'd rather take off the fairing than the gas tank.

         I connected straight to battery using fuse connection provided with unit. Then connect to aux cable located under right side cover to use mp3 player and voice commands through radio controls to headset and or speakers. Run wires under tank and wire tie to handle bars. If I can do it anybody can.
         The main reason for wiring to battery instead of through the switch, is to keep unit running to maintain accurate data while stopped for fuel, meals, rest stops, etc without switching to battery power.

What is the matter with using your cigarette lighter....   You did have one didn't ya?

I don't think it would be too wise to splice into the dash lights...

I picked mine up under the right side panel, don't remember which terminal right off, but Kamikaze could tell ya which one to use.....

I believe I spliced power off of one of the wires for the headlights, can't recall which one now, it was a few years back...

How did you power up your old GPS?

I'd use the same wire, just change out the end to fit your Zumo........

I got a 6' right angle audio cord and ran it with the power cord under the tank to the battery area and then hooked into my aux fuse panel, and the aux sound outlet. I put both inside a section of the flexible cable cover?  Black corragated 1/2" taped wrapped every 6" or so. I put a splice in the power cable about  a foot from the mount so that the mount can be removed if needed. 2 wire trailer type flat plug with cover. You don't have to remove the tank to do this. Use a coat hanger place from front to back behind the right carb bank. The hardest part was getting the wires over the top of the center cover to the fuse panel and aux sound outlet. My zumo mount is on the left bar as close to the radio controls as possible and I ran the wires between the risers over the top of the riser cover to the mount.
