I have a patch on my riding vest that is on the front near the top. Sez-Why should i press 1 for english? When you call an 800 # for something/anything my first request is for someone with ENGLISH as their first language. RIDE SAFE.

Why do you have to dail #1 for English? Becuase it's not your country any longer. We're no longer a homogeneous country or culture. We're all culturally diverse now. Isn't it great?

Wow, not another anti-American rant... Since the USA doesn't have an "official" language, I see nothing wrong with accommodating people who don't understand English. There are many people who are legally here for business or personal reasons that may not fully speak English, and if businesses or government offices want to offer services in multiple languages, I think they should. I refer to this post as "anti-American" since government regulation of language would go against the spirit of The Constitution. If we did force an "official" language, how would that be done? Would we limit it to "American English"? If we did, Britman would have to stop using "Bloody hell" since that is a foreign phrase!

When were we EVER a homogeneous country or culture? We've ALWAYS had diverse cultures. That is a strength, not a weakness!

In my town, when you dial city services, you hear the welcome and then the message, in Spanish, to poke numero dos to hear the menu en Español. My town is predominately "Hispanic" (WTF that means), though that's not to say that all are Spanish-speaking.
The US has always been culturally diverse. Ask anyone in Texas who has ever heard a conjunto band play "Sailor's Hornpipe", danced a Schottiche or eaten jambalaya We have no official language. A biker contact in South Africa tells me they have seven official languages.

If English was made our "official" language, all the 'stuff' folks dislike about this would change.

Sorry... The Christians have beat the Muslims to it... prohibition, blue laws, public decency laws, gambling restrictions, smoking restrictions, concert and music restrictions, and teaching religion in public schools. Fortunately, many of these restrictions were overturned, but several still remain...

I've met several hispanic drivers that don't speak spanish, made for a bit of a problem when they became trainers and were givien students that didn't speak english (how the heck did they get a CDL?) one guy name of mark (he's hispanic) had a great talk with him we got around to racism and he said 'I'm not racist, I hate everyone.' he stopped at a road side stand once and bought a confederate falg, the guy looked at him funny. his daughter's boyfriend saw him tacking this flag up in his gun room, and said "oh hell no". guess what ethnicity he was? Mark said "if you don't like it, get out!"

nah I can understand 'bloody hell'
I'm guessing you can also understand "hasta la vista", "Chau", "auf wiedersehen", "bon voyage", "caveat emptor" and even "E pluribus unum". Looks like those foreign languages have already been integrated into American English!

I consider the US to be more advanced in accommodating diverse cultures and customs.
