Anyone ever visited
White Lake, NC?My MawMaw visited
White Lake on a field trip while in high school, from Morganton,NC, and always remembered it fondly. As a young boy I had many family vacations at
White Lake. My wife and I visited it for a few days this week. I'm not sure much has changed since MawMaw was in high school, and I'm not sure that it should.
White Lake is a crater lake with clear water and a peaceful atmosphere. Billed as the safest beach in the nation, White Lake is a great place to swim, water ski, or jet ski. The lake is fairly shallow, and almost flat across the bottom making this a great place to splash around. Dad is fond of saying, "you can wear yourself out walking to find enough water to swim in."
The motels have a 1950s feel, some efficiencies, but mainly clean rooms around the lake for families. Restaurants are not aplenty. While the aged resort has two put put courses, and a golf course away from the lake, it only boasts about as many restaurants. It does have a pavilion complete with arcade.
With only one main road looping back to the highway around the round lake, this isn't the best cruising area. Although this is located down some long straight Eastern NC highways in each direction. The ride in is fun, day trips into Wilmington are fine, but just sitting on the dock watching the sunset is priceless.
This near timeless resort is a neat slow paced place to relax, unwind, and spend a vacation.

Two thumbs way up.
