Has anyone tried the Shinko Tourmaster, or Shinko tires?  If so how did you like them?

Thanks

Seems I heard these were recalled. I also remember hearing of them coming apart, they just can't handle the weight of the phat girl or other heavy weight bikes. I personally wouldn't buy them. Just my .02

Yeah I've heard of the recall and  hopefully that's been resolved. There were several view that run them on wings.

Thanks

Had em but - Never used em.... I did have the 747's as shelf spares but they were recalled and replaced with 757's, which I also had as shelf spares.  The tread on the 757's were not as deep as some of the others (Avons, Metz etc) but I liked the design and feel of the tire.  Unfortunately.... the 757's were recalled as well before I could use them and the vendor replaced them with..... Metz ME880's.   The issue they claim to have had was bubbling on the 747 fronts and de-lamination on the 757's.   I'm still wearing the Avon's and the Metz'z are now at least mounted on my spare wheels in standby.

I found one at Motorcycle super store for $83 and is hard to pass up. It is the 230 and has good reviews and some had GW's. I have an E-3 on the back that's about 8 months old and figure when the Shinko is about gone I'd get another set of E-3s.

I wore out a Shinko Raven on the back of my ST1300. Lasted for nearly 5,500 miles compared to a Bridgestone at 7,500 BUT was less than half the cost of the Bridgestone.

I have a Shinko Verge on the front.

I use Shinko 244's or 705's on my KLR.

No problems. good price and YES I DO check my tire pressures every time I ride if it's been more than a couple of days.

I've had Shinko tires on light bikes (less than 500 lbs).  I've never tried them on the Valkyrie.  Make sure of the load rating before you buy!!!

As for the tires on the lighter bikes... they work fine there.  Kinda noisy when skidding (super moto style)... but they have decent grip.

4.4 of 5* out of 65! Pretty good reviews for that certain tire that's for Valks and VTX 1800's!

I have ran shinko tires before. I ran the 747's and had problems 3 of the came apart in less than a year. I have a new set of 757's sitting in my garage for my 1500 wing.  I sent an email to one of Shinko reps today asking about a recall.  He said no recall exist, but he would prefer we did not put tires into service. And another person from companty would be in contact with me.  I have a set of the 230's on an 1100 wing.  No problems so far.   I am not sure I would run them on my Valkyrie. I don't think the are constructed heavy enough.

Bought a front one from JP Cycles. Before I had a chance to get it mounted, JP sent me a letter asking me to exchange it for a Metz. They said they would pay for the mount & balance if I had already installed the Shinko.
Musta been pretty important to them to get the Shinko's back.  Shocked

Yes it was the 700 series, 747, 757 I think. They were recalled. PaValker had the same issue and I think they gave him Metz too.

Well I dun dun it! I bought the 230 TourMaster which has excellent reviews in the link I posted. They are several Goldwings running them and they are heavier than the Valk, also some VTX 1800's which are very heavy. The Valk, GW & X takes the same tire so it's built for weight...I hope! Grin I'll soom be finding out in a couple of days. My Dunlop E3 on the rear has about 3/4 tread and I figure the time I need another front I'll go with a top of the line set. Wink

I bought mine at motorcyclesuperstore.com on sale and free shipping. They actually beat American Moto which has always been the cheapest I've found.

I couldn't find a Shinko in that size but found a good deal on a Bridgestone which is a good tire for $130 @ MSS cooldude

odd, if the customer service guy tells you NOT TO USE THE TIRE, i'd say it's an unsafe tire!!  sounds to me that the longer it SITS in your garage, the more problems you'll have in getting a refund!!
