Would like to try to round up any that would like to meet for lunch in the lafayette area. Was thinking late Sept. I know this is a ways off, But I figure that an early notice would give all time to plan for it. Would like to do a Saturday, and go to a mom and pop restaruant. Figured that Lafayette would be a somewhat central location. Input? Ideas?

I would be interested depending on which weekend, weather, etc.  It is about 260 miles one way for me.

We got our indiana ride coming up in early Oct. but I could be game. I can be there in 1 1/2 hours or less. Hope there is not a home game that weekend.

You gonna make the Ind Ride In?

Sounds interesting, maybe we can do a pickup in Ohio on the way for the buckeyes.  Weather and job dependent.

HAY!! Know fare!!

20 minute rides, do NOT excite me! Feels like I'm going to work!!

Don't know of any decent "mom and pop" eateries in Lafayette, but can ask around, if you'd like, to get some ideas. My eating in Lafayette is limited to El Rodeo, really good mexican, with good margaritas, and a couple of the steak houses. The "mom and pops" is the grill out on the deck. Since I work in Lafayette, though, most of the folks I work with, DO know the area a lot better, so let me know if you want me to look for input...

I'm 20 miles north of Springfield, may be able to make it. I would probably have to stay over Sat.

I'm trying to plan the other ind ride.

If the trend is east-ish we can do that. warsaw is fine, im coming from NW so anything that way is hour ish for those up north west. I put lafayette out as an Idea. Looking at a loose schedule for work the 24th of Sept is looking REALLY good.....

I will keep this.  I am in central Illinois.  but always looking for a lunch or dinner ride.  Not sure it would qualify as a mom & pop.  But just south of Indy at Greenwood there is the Jonathan Berg Caffiteria.  Great food and large dinning room. I am sure they could set us up away from others and we would not be pressed for time.  Not sure that is exact spelling but it is right in center of Indiana.

Once u get to Indy there plenty small towns and mom and pop shops.  I was stationed at camp atterburg for 2 years.  Just north of Columbus, In......  Nashville, In has some great spots and brown county state park is a good a nice little side trip.  Go east and your a brookville lake and plenty of twisty roads and eatery's.

Ok in interest of keeping this central so Illinois can run in for lunch as well, i'm going to keep this in the Lafayette area. I'm going to make the ride down there on the 24th of Sept. With the plan of eating Somewhere ( ideas?) at 1200 indy time, 1100 Chicago time.

Okay, it's official...

September 24, 2011, around noon - the First Annual Phillips' Family Valkyrie and other Motorcycles Bar-B-Que.

The deck's done, the music loud, and the two grills a grillin'! I've got all the room in the world, and live in a small, motorcycle-friendly town. The neighbors are cool, and so is the town constable.

You all are invited, to Oxford, IN, for all the pork chops, burgers, brats and dogs, potato salad, chips, beans, fresh sweet corn, if still available, pop and tea, and all the trimmings you can handle. Anyone having "special" food requirements, let me know, so I can accommodate you. I do ask for a $5 donation, to help defray costs, but not required. The important thing is to come and enjoy the company of fellow riders. Participation is NOT limited to riders - ride, drive, or walk - we'll be glad to see you!

I will have the shop, tools, and lift table available, for any repairs or work that you might need. We also have plenty of room and facilities for anyone that wants to camp over-night. We only lack a shower. I do have electric hookup for one motorhome, as well, and have sewer available for a dump station.

I do ask, in order to be sure to have enough fixin's, that I get some kind of head count, by September 10th or so, the 17th at the latest. Please click on the email link below, or PM me through the forums. Let me know if you are sure to come, or even tentatively planning on coming. I know that it's sometimes rough to make plans, and that plans change, so I'm not holding anyone to anything. I just want to make sure I have too much, instead of too little.

Email for RSVP:  Click Here

All roads lead to Oxford, Home of Dan Patch, conveniently located about 20 minutes from Lafayette, IN. Here's a link to the mapquest listing for Oxford:

Oxford, IN

Looking forward to meeting you all!

Looks like 9 or 10 in, with a friend or two of mine....time for a bump, and I will be posting a NEW thread, to make sure we get everyone that wants to come.

Just curious, I'm thinking about putting in a horseshoe pit - actually, been wanting to for a while. The Wife told me to just make a set of Washoo's, or bean bag toss, on short notice. What do you guys think? Will we play any of them, if I put them in? It's about the same amount of work, although I won't tell her - women seem to think that if it's IN the ground, it's gotta be a lot harder, than all the woodwork, etc, to keep it ABOVE ground!   Grin

How 'bout some input?

Been spending the evening cleaning up the shop.

Looking forward to it!!!

Going off my memory here but there are hotels in Monticello & W Lafeyette which is about 30 min away or so. Other then that the big towns on US 24 have hotels. Thats all I know. Its a toss up for us if/where we stay.

Fudgie is correct, but the closest convenient place, would be Lafayette, or West Lafayette (sister cities, separated by the Wabash River). There's what appears to be a nice, inexpensive one (construction crews frequent it), in West Lafayette, just before heading out of town, towards Oxford, about a 20 minute drive. I can get the name and info tomorrow, and even ask about maybe a bit of a discount, if we have a few people that might be staying there. Monticello is actually further, about 45 minutes from us, if I recall.

And, as I mentioned, you can camp on-site, if you want, just don't have shower facilities. Do have a garden hose, though...   Grin

Hmm, well you didn't invite Kentucky.  I could've brought a little "southern charm" with me.   Sad

Of course, Kentucky is invited!! The more the merrier. Some of my best times have been with old Ford truck-buddies, from Kentucky. Don't know if it was just their humor, or the area, but they had me in stitches the entire weekend!

Oh yeah, looking at getting the horseshoe pit in, in time...I like old school, too!

Hopefully, will have an "updated" list, the week after Labor Day.
