Any day that you ride is a good day!

Moneta, VA

« on: August 14, 2011, 08:08:13 PM »

Thinking about putting a ride together for the Virginia section of the BRP on Saturday September 3rd.

The tentative plan is to meet up in Waynesboro, VA on Friday the 2nd for a night of "Tire Kickin" and then ride out on Saturday morning.

If everything goes as planned we could meet a group riding North with Smokin' Joe from North Carolina in Galax, VA for dinner.

It is possible that anyone from the two groups that wanted to could spend Saturday night kickin' tires near there.

If you are interested let me know ASAP please.

If enough people are interested I will set up a "Ground Zero" hotel in Waynesboro, Va for Friday night (9/2).

Mark, I'm a 'possible.'

So Fri in Waynesboro VA motel, get up Sat am and ride BRP South to Galax VA, and overnight there (perhaps to meet up with TN riders).  Then what for Sun, home?

I know it is BRP, not I-81 (but just for reference)

http://maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=m&lat=38.166342&lon=-78.140111&zoom=9&q1=Waynesboro%2C%20VA&q2=Galax%2C%20VA

I have put out a couple feelers for a couple other folks in NoVA.

I'd love to make it....but that's the anniversary of our first date and
my wife just can't make it that far. Side note, our first date was a ride
on my GS 1100 Suzuki and she burnt her leg on the exhaust pipe when
we stopped for gas. 22 years (to the day) later we had our 03 Valk (RIP)
in Myrtle Beach and she burnt her leg on the exhaust pipe! We always go
for a ride on Labor Day, but 125-150 miles is about her limit.

Ok, I have a riding partner and roomie lined up for this ride.  Still waiting for a return answer from one other.  I am waiting to see if this takes off and then can make a wider inquiry to other locals.

Hey , I have a Printout of the Blue Ridge Parkway Ride. ALL 469 Miles on Labor Day Weekend September 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. It says to contact Smoking Joe. I do not see it on the Upcoming Rides Anymore but it was there. Did not want you to plan something if SmokingJoe already had one Going and having two groups instead of One. Would like to hear some input from SmokingJoe.....

BigC, this (and another thread) lay it out.  Mark's group would start in Waynesboro VA Fri and head South to Galax, for a Sat night meet up with Joe's group coming up from farther South.  Presumably, the whole crowd then head North on the BRP Sun.  Mon is Labor Day.

The half-way point will be it for my group unless some want to ride on north...As for me sunday will be southbound and I've got a few folks that have confirmed with me and I'm pretty sure they will head home sunday as well..... It's a meet in the middle ride . I'll be in touch with 3fan4life this weekend and we'll have all the information by then so watch the board this coming weekend if you plan on riding  cooldude

You would be correct "Young Grasshopper"  Evil

I looked at the dates wrong:

It should be Friday September 2nd in Waynesboro, VA

I went back and fixed the original post in an attempt to eliminate confusion.  Embarrassed

The date for Waynesboro, VA is Friday September 2nd.

I will set up a hotel this Thursday and post the info.

I have a place in mind but would like to check it out in person.

If anyone that knows for sure they are comming would PM me between now and Thursday,  I'd really appreciate it.

I would like to get the hotel to block off some rooms for us and I'll need as accurate of an estimate as possible.

The plan at present is as follows:

One group will meet up in Wayneboro, VA Friday September 2nd for some "Tire Kickin" and then head South along the Parkway on Saturday morning.

Smokin' Joe and others will be riding Northward from North Carolina on Saturday.

The two groups should be able to meet up for Dinner Sat evening (Galax, VA looks good for this).

No location is set yet for a Saturday night hotel but options are available.

For those spending Saturday night, I'm sure that some more "Tire Kickin" will be in order.

Sunday morning would be a ride home for everyone.

As in past rides I'm sure that plans and alliances can easily be made Saturday night for those wanting to continue their ride on Sunday.

This should be a good opporunity for some nice riding in beautiful country and to spend some quality time with friends.

So as Smokin' Joe says,  "Bring it Let's Ride."  cooldude

Good Morning 3fan4life,
I'm interested in joining the group on Friday 9/2 for this ride if that would be ok?

It would be great to meet more members from our community.
I would be coming from Uniontown, Ohio

So can I meet up with you all on Saturday morning to ride south.  Just a wandering Texan coming down from Michigan.  Just need a hook up time and place.

I'll ride south to meet up with the Wild Bunch on Saturday night.  Have to bring some of Joe's medicine and then head out Sunday with the Wild Bunch through the hills and dales to Knoxville.

Head back to my trailer in Michigan on Monday.  Nice lesiruely ride for Labor Day.

Joe, I promise I'll clean them wheels before I come down.  Even wax the Big Red Land Elephant.  She to purdy since to cleaned her up for me.

Charlie you are welcome to join us,

but why miss out on the "Tire Kickin" on Friday night?

Right now I'm thinking "kickstands up" at 0800 on Saturday morning in the hotel parking lot (there is a little room for flexibility but not much).

I hope to have the hotel details worked out and posted by this Thursday evening.

I won't be leaving Michigan till mid afternoon.  I have a large crane lift that I have to monitor on that Friday and depending on the planning I hope to leave early.  But Murphy has a way of showing up. I have to make some coin to pay for this lavish lifestyle that I live.

But I'll make up for the tie kicking on Saturday.  So game on.

The Hotel Details for Friday Night are as Follows:

Days Inn
2060 Rosser Avenue
Waynesboro, VA 22980

The rate is $66 including tax

To reserve a room you need to call them @ (540) 943 - 1101 (you will not be able to reserve a room at this rate online).

Tell them that you are with the VRCC Ride in order to get the rate.

They are holding 10 rooms for us right now (7 non-smoking 3 smoking) and the manager said that she would add more rooms at that rate if they are needed.

You need to reserve your room before Monday August 29th after that date rooms and rates aren't guaranteed.

The manager was very friendly and seemed excited about having us there.

This should be a fun ride for all, So give the hotel a call soon and reserve your rooms the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned.

If anyone needs more info or encounters any registration problems PM me and I'll give you my Cell #

The manager assured me that she would make sure that all of her registration staff knew about us.  She did say that if the staff had any trouble finding the info to ask them to look it up by the date (9/2).

The hotel is located just off I-64 @ VA Exit 94:

Heath and I will be there. Have made reservations in Waynesboro and Sparta. The motel in Waynesboro said they only have one room left.

I just spoke with the staff @ the Days Inn in Waynesboro.

Two of the original 10 rooms that they set aside for us are still available.

They assured me that they would make more rooms available if needed (additional rooms aren't guaranteed to be together).

If you're thinking about going on this ride, remember that the cut off for guaranteed rooms and rate is Monday August, 29th.

So if you're thinking about it................... don't think too long.

See everyone there !

I won't be on the ride, but my better half and I did the entire BRP in the beginning of August, and there's a closure and a detour that I wanted to let y'all know about (I know it's in the NC portion, but just in case anyone wanted to continue that far down):

This link has a link to a map of the closure and detour:
http://www.nps.gov/blri/planyourvisit/roadclosures.htm

MILEPOST 232 - 237

The Blue Ridge Parkway will be closed to all traffic from Milepost 232 at Stone Mountain Overlook to Milepost 237 at Air Bellows Gap beginning July 15, 2011 and continuing until the summer of 2012. This closure is due to the reconstruction of the Parkway's 32,000 linear feet of historic rock masonry walls in that section. Detour traffic signage will direct Parkway visitors around the closed area via US Highway 21 and NC Route 18 through Laurel Springs and Sparta. Click here for a map of the detour.

That will definately affect Smokin' Joes group, but not too much.

See Ya there.

If anyone calls the Waynesboro Days Inn and the desk staff tells you that no rooms are available, NICELY remind them that "Frances Hughes" the assistant manager promised that she would add more rooms if they were needed.

The original 10 rooms are all together, if we need more rooms they may be in a different part of the hotel.

If anyone has trouble getting a room in Waynesboro PLEASE let me know and I will contact Ms. Huges.

She seemed very nice and I am sure that if any problems arise that they will only be the result of a simple misunderstanding.

Just be sure to make your reservations before August 29th.
