power outlets?

My oldest daughter gave me a Nuvi 550 that I have been using in the car to help me find my way to visit her in Nashville, TN.  But lately I have been thinking it would be nice to have on the Valkyrie when navigating the North Bay area in California to visit my youngest daughter.  Any suggestions for a power outlet to use on my '03 Standard?

I have a plug off the battery for my trickle charger.. At O'Reilys auto I found a 12 v plug made to hook on a trailer light plug. The 12 v plugs right into the trickle charger plug........ Use it for my phone.

Mine is a outlet I added directly to the battery, with fuse in the hot wire. 

It lays on top of the battery when not in use.   

If I'm using it it is pulled out underneath the seat and left dangling while in use.   

Done, pull the plug on whatever is being used to power and put it away or let it hang there.   

It is a Marine outlet, got it at a boat shop.

I have a "Bell" power outlet under the center of the handle bars zip tied to the bar itself.  (Criss-Crossed zip tie over the bar). It was meant to be a temp install til I found something better.... but I haven't so it remains.   My Ram Mount Ball is mounted in the center of the handle bar Top Clamp so my Nuvi is mounted right near and right above  the Power Port.  I remove the GPS as a unit with the Ram Mount/Bracket and put in the trunk or bags as a Unit as well.   I have another power port behind riders seat that tucks under the seat and out of the way when not needed.  From that rear power port I can put my cell phone on charge and extend the charger cable to the trunk and lock the phone up.  Or, my GF can charge hers as she wears it if need be.   And in the event I need to jump someone or need a jump myself, I have a pigtail with battery alligator clamps that plug into that (have yet to need or use it tho).

This is what I did, got it at Wally World as I recall, been on there for 7-8 yrs. now. I can plug my phone in to charge and leave it in the saddlebag while riding. And if I need it for something up front, I just run the wire for it along under the tank and up next to the neck. I just cut the mount piece out of some scrap aluminum then polished it. I have the power connected to my extra fuse strip under the right side cover, powered up only when the key is on.

+1.  Same setup & works great.  I chose to go with hot lead being hot whether key on or off so I can charge the phone overnight on long camping trips.  Don't know a downside to that.

Hook up directly to battery run wires underneath and along the tank behind the carbs, up the yoke and to the handle bars.  I zip tied mine to the clutch line.  very clean can't see it.  very eay to take off if not in use.  Plug her in ready to go.

I have a small, 6 outlet fuse panel zip tied to a piece of 1/8 plywood in the tool pocket behind the battery. Also on this board are a relay (powered only with the key on) a power point and 2 usb power points, for the GPS and Ipod. The cables roll up and hide behind the right side cover.

I'm thinking of adding a cig lighter somewhere, perhaps in the hanger covers, and a point in the trunk for charging things like the laptop.

I bolted a power point to an existing hole beneath the seat. The wire to my GPS is then easily run up under the tank, all out of out sight once I pop the seat back on.

I actually came across a weather proof one at the dealer while walking around waiting for parts.
Came with a mounting setup for the handle bar. I placed it next to the center plate on the bar. Works great for my GPS, Cell, and has a cig lighter for it as well.

I am using the same kuryakin outlet for my Nuvi 500 which is connected to a Centertech fuse block that I installed under the seat.  Powerlet makes nicer outlets but they are very pricey.

I got an idea, how about getting in contact with me when you get into the Bay Area and I can show you around? (this is where I call home) just a thought. Well technically I live in the South Bay area, but I knows my way around lots of the middle of this state. When you traveling?

No firm plans yet.  My youngest just moved, again, and I should check out her new place.  I live up on the CA/OR border (aka: State of Jefferson).

I used a Marinco Sealink locking plug...prevents vibration from walking plug out of receptacle.  I mounted it up front for easy access.  Both receptacle and plug are compatible with standard counterparts.

That's a neat product since the spring pressure of a standard 12V power plug eventually wants to push it out.

I finally found a handlebar mounted cigarette lighter (Kuri makes one, but $60+?) on Amazon, but they won't ship to my address in Canada.

Then I found a distributer here in town, ordered it for $19.95, screw Amazon. You can use it as a power point or lighter, and it's a marine product, so weatherproof (the local dist is a boat shop) and comes with a cap for when you're not using it. The back end is exposed, but I'll look at a few things, like liquid electrical tape and pill bottles, anything that doesn't look too bad and works. With the IS faring, it shouldn't be too hard to hide and cover.

Powerlet is a very strong connection, won't pop back out.  Plenty of accessories on the same site.  I got a powerlet to 2 cig lighter adapter with 2 usb inserts that I can use in my vehicles when not on the bike.  I've charged my cell phone, camera, mp3 player while riding down the road, just plug in and throw in my saddlebag or my tankbag.

I have a cheapy on the Valk now.

I use the Kury also.  What I like is that it uses the same plug as my trickle charger and compressor.  Only had to install 1 cable set on the bike for all three.

That's the one I have, so I can plug anything that plugs into a cigarette socket into my Valk.

Everything works great, no problems at all.  The powerlet site has all kinds of cables/adaptors/accessories for just about anything you can think of.
