Hmmm... An engine burning gasoline can get hot and burn you... Whoda thunk it?! I have 28,000 miles on my 2009 Road Glide, with no burns, clothing on fire, or other failures. What am I doing wrong?!

Why doen't HD just put stickers on the pipes? "Warning may be HOT do not touch" or "Warning actually riding this motorcycle may lead to burns, injury, and financial ruin"

In the article it says the subject bikes got so hot that clothing caught fire. Now, I park bikes at Daytona Beach twice a year. Been doing it for eight years. 75-80% of the bikes we see are Harley Davidsons. Our parking lot is a small one, but there are some large ones nearby that we walk through to go shopping on Main street. Then theres the bikes on Main street and the AIA. It gets pretty warm in Daytona. In fact I saw a chopper get so hot (S&S motor) that oil was pouring out of every case gasket.
I said all that to say this. NEVER have I seen, heard tale of or believe any clothing has caught fire under normal proximity to a hot HD motor.
Maybe an old rag soaked in oil laying on the floor after a lit cigarette got dropped on it from someone that burned his/her leg after riding a HD in shorts.......that could happen..............this is BOGUS, kinda like the McDonalds coffee thing

I said all that to say this. NEVER have I seen, heard tale of or believe any clothing has caught fire under normal proximity to a hot HD motor. Nor have I. That's total horseshit. Polyester might melt, but cotton will not catch fire. But this part: "Owen believes the unsafe heat problem is due to Harley selling larger engines that cannot comply with the emission standards of many states, including California." is accurate. But I blame these ridiculous emissions standards, not the bikes. H-D is doing the best they can to keep their machines functioning with the laws being shoved down their throats.

Something upset you??-lawsuit. Someone piss you off??-lawsuit. Did your medicine upset your tummy??-lawsuit. Did your tire go flat after picking up 3 nails in it??-lawsuit. That right there folks is our country today. There is not a commercial break on the telly that DON'T include at least one lawfirm trolling for business. Maybe i have a simplistic view but that is what i'm seeing. And no-i do not hate lawyers-my sister in law is a good lawyer. Have to follow this one and see where it ends up. RIDE SAFE.

I've given myself second degree burns from the pipes of several oriental two wheelers I've owned. never crossed my mind to sue, what was I thinking back in my 'young and dumb' days I used to ride while wearing shorts and burned my legs duh!
