I am praying for the NC boys and the few along the virginia coast.

How this storm plays out will set the stage for bikeweek here. Its gonna be a ruff one I think.

I predict that here in the northeast the sound of yawning will drown out the sound of wind. They love to get people in a panic about this crap but I can't recall a hurricane here that was anything more than a minor inconvenience. But the mid coast is gonna take a beating.

depends on the track

could be nothing more than a few million people without power

but could also be major storm surges if the storm tracks west

mandatory evacuations in nyc and jersey and the subways get turned off at noon sat  That has never happened except by accident during the blackouts

anyone for a motorcycle ride in a hurricane?

Details, details....  Smiley
Actually a himmicane can affect a lot more people than a tornado.  Hurricanes most times give birth to tornadoes.

Bottom line, Y'all be safe and I hope it turns right enough to just give rain and not much else.

Well, I see by looking at the weather channel, that you guys have some idiot weathermen also.  Do they really think we "need" them standing out in the surf with 70+ mph winds to get the idea that the hurricane has come on shore??!!!
And, just a warning, if you see TWC's Jim Cantore (SP?) in your neighborhood, run the other way.  He has a pretty good track record of being in the direct path of these kind of storms.  They showed him in Galveston for Ike and we all know what happened with that.

Be safe and ride her out.

Evidently, the media has already decided that its going to be a big story, so its going to be a big story whether it is or not.

We went to the beach to check out the waves while a hurricane was approaching. The Weather Channel was there. They were shooting video with the reporter standing under a banner. They had two people shaking the poles holding the banner to make it look windy.  2funny

Hard overcast and constant rain all day, mostly moderate.  Moderate constant winds, slowly picking up
(two quick brown-outs).

Worried about no noise from the sump, so a check revealed only a trickle so far.

Interesting.  http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ridge/Conus/full_loop.php

Passing on a ride today, bikes are both clean at the same time for once.

In a little while I think I could go for a fuel conserving sail with the fairing, so long as I'm running with the wind.

Best news is it won't get above the mid 70s today.

Report from Norfolk, VA.  Much rain, but did not have hurricane force winds.  Only sustained winds at tropical storm strength.  Lost power from 8 last night until noon today.  Yesterday was hunkering down and watching the hurricane show on local news.  Seeing Andy Fox (WAVY 10) standing in the full force winds at Nags Head was a hoot.  He is such an idiot, but everyone loves him anyway.  No damage to the house and only a few uprooted trees.  All in all, Norfolk dodged the "Big One".

Well, it started getting windy and rainy early this morning,... by 10:30 or so, we had gusts at around 35-45 mph.  The forcast on a couple different channels said the worst would be when it hit us between 12:00 and 3:00 pm ... Well there was only a number of short, high spurts of wind  and a 20-25 mph sustained, and it passed us...continuing North... Hope all up North fare as well as we did.  Just put all the deck furniture and plants back out on the deck.   Real mild, compared to the tree that fell on me a couple of years ago. Shocked

things worked out great. tho i have been really busy cleaning up all the leaves and twigs in my yard and driveway. not to worry. we lost 10 shingles and thats it. even my freshly planted crepe myrtle tree(bush or shrub, whatever) came thru unscathed...
