Hey everyone,  Testerday My son, Mikey, & I rode up to mount Evans. What a ride. The weather was perfect. A little cool at the top tho... but felt good to me. Rode to Morrison from Broomfield then up to Mt. Evans & down to Idaho Springs. Mike rode up here from California last Friday after work & arrive here Saturday afternoon...doing an Iron Butt Association SaddleSore 1000 ride. I am leaving for Canada this coming Saturday & he is heading back to California. Always nice to have him up for a visit.

Cool deal.

That sign at the bottom appears to be incorrect.  The road to the top of Pike's Peak is certainly an auto road.  I understood that Mount Evans' claim to fame was being the highest paved road in the lower 48.

Actually, I thought Mt Evans was a bit taller than Pikes peak, either way they are both impressive rides.  Hoser   Cheesy

Add:  I just Googled pikes peak road, they are paving it to the top!  Hoser

You're right.  I'm wrong.   ???  The road to the top (or almost the top) of Mt. Evans is about twenty feet higher than Pike's Peak.

The sign at Mt. Evans used to say, "The highest paved road in North America." Not any more. I have a pix of it the old way somewhere. I did not know Pike's Peak is going to be paved all the way to the top...but it will be nice. Pike's Peak is a harder road to navigate than Mt. Evans...I think. I like them both. Still a challange on some of the real hairpin turns. The view from both are awesome.

I think Pike's peak is much harder because of the gravel, looking forward to the pavement.  Hoser  cooldude

Without a doubt, Pike's Peak is more difficult with the unpaved, washboard areas. It will definitely be better paved all the way up. Mt. Evans is a national park & Pike's Peak is run by the city of Colorado Springs. I will have to do Pike's Peak again when I get back from my vacation in Canada.
