I'm getting ready for a new shield. My stocker is beyond help, what with delamination and scratches.

There seems to be an abundent selection out there. I'm looking for a lower, curved, dark grey. Can someone send me off in the right direction?

Thanks-

Cee Baileys: short in Dark Smoke

Thanks for the input. Cee Baileys states that the OE is 15.5", they are available in 9.5, 11.5, & 13.5 at 5'10" any suggestions as to what I might need?

You stated that yours is a shorty, just what do you consider that, and do you still get protection from it?

You do get wind protection at 11.5".
It isn't much for wintery, snowy weather though.

Of all the options available, I think Grumpy (Bill) got the best available with a cut down Clearview Medium (I think) GT.  You need the medium GT to get the amount of curve, but cut the top off a few inches to get the right height.  It has a serious recurve, which allows it to be shorter than stock but stll direct wind over the average height rider's head.  His does not have tint, and I would not want tint either, but tint can be had from Clearview.

Pics were posted some time back on the VRF Delphi forum, but I cannot research there as a basic member anymore.

Bill, if you are reading this, could you please post a little info and a couple pics again of your shield?

Thanks very much.

Clearview does not have any good pics of this on their website.

You got it, I had it cut to 2 inches shorter than stock, I have been real happy with it.

Slightly smoked and it is perfect for me.

For me.

Tulsa tall.

When all those I ride with are cutting their windshield off, I like mine the best.

Thanks a lot Bill.  Not to be a total PITA, but do you have a side shot that shows the recurve better? Please.

(Looks like you took new, I thought you might have the pics you put up on VRF.  If you had to go out and take more, thanks again.)

I've had stock, ShowChrome tall, and have a cut down black opaque version.

For long distance touring, I prefer the taller w/s.  I can wear a hat (oops, I mean helmet) without buffeting or worrying about losing it.

The shorter cutoff version looks cool, almost UltraClassic like and is just tall enough to allow me to wear my hat if pulled on tight.  Takes some getting used to as it is opaque and obscures some forward vision.

Just depends what you want.

My IS came with a Showchrome, taller wider shield. Great for catching bugs, wind, etc. but I could not really look over it. Also helped with keeping you somewhat dryer during the rain, I just couldn't see through the rainy, wet shield well.

Brand new, received Wednesday; 2 inches shorter than stock (13.5 inch) dark tint shield from Cee Bailey.

I saw Bill's windshield today on our ride. It is perfect for what I need. You can see over it and it is 5" wider than stock. Looks great too. I'm ordering one Monday cut down 2" like his.

Ok, Ok, Ok, I got a question. I also am considering a new windshield for about the same reasons the stocker has about had it.

I do most of my driving at night or after or before dusk. Should I bother getting the smoke or light tint? Of course this is just your opinion. I am right at 6'1" and when I sit up properly, my eyes are just about 1"-2" above the stock shield.

I think I like the "ClearView GT Small 16.5"L Light grey tint & with vent" $295 shipped ( Shocked OUCH!!!!! Shocked) Probably leave off the vent for the cost.

Is this worth the extra money over other options? Opinions please.

Remember the IS fairing is already vented.... and the shorter shield should give more airflow.

The stock vent in the fairing does work and you can stuff foam or other things in there to shut off or minimize air flow but you can't do that while you’re riding. Well I sure cant I have long arms but not that long. Cheesy Cheesy

I actually took a large tube shape of fishpond pump screen/filter and cut it in half length wise and then roll it into the fairing vent it will keep ALL flying critters from passing through the vent an smacking you in the face Shocked but does not stop all air movement Cool so you still have the Anti buffeting  advantages of that airflow.
