Cheesy Ran the car tire for 20,000 miles  Cheesy it was as exspected as everyone had said it would be, U could feel the contour of the roads and U had to work it a bit to keep on track -  Roll Eyes cornored fine.

However I noticed a big diffeence in the handling going back to a bike tire this week  coolsmiley
Cornoring was smoother, less effort - I could keep the bike on a straight track regardless of road conditions  Cool

So I gues I'm back to changing out the rear tire every season again  Sad

You are only respected for your decision to return to the factory setup, because you tried the car tire.

Well I have ridden bikes with car tires and what is all the fuss.

It really is only cheaper.

That's about the only advantage to the setup.

They will slide out on yah just as fast as a motorcycle specific will.

But I believe it's like people that ride Harleys to find friends, if you ride a car tire you are set apart with a few rabid believers.

Not how I make friends.

Do your own thing but my gosh it really is no big deal.

Now if we could buy a new Valkyrie, that would be a big deal.

I guess until then mods are all we have.

Gotta disagree with this one point. My favorite part of a good car tire is that it doesn't slide out in the wet (or dry) at all. I was having a very hard time with 'stepping out' on the bike tires in the rain. It is hard to FORCE it to slide in the rain now. I just got back from 1000 miles in the NM mountains in the rain, and was again thankful for the way it sticks now.

Ya gotta do what's right for you!!!!!
I put a car tire on early this Spring......  Handles good... different but good... even on uneven road surfaces.... or maybe I'm learning how it handles....
But it's been good for me.... I would be looking for my 3rd rear mc tire this season by now.... and the ct has 15,000 miles, and LOTS of miles left.

This comes down to having the ability to have confidence in your bike. This includes your choice of tires. You went with a Car tire, gave it an honest try, and didn't have the confidence in it that you feel with a M/C tire so you went back to the M/C tire. Good decision.

I do have confidence in the C/T that I'm running and enjoy the various up sides to the C/T. But if I didn't have the utmost confidence in the tire, I'd drop it like a hot potato with out regrets.

Are you serious?  Two bike tires in 15,000 miles?  Shocked  You must ride pretty hard.  Cool I can get 20,000 miles out of a rear E3.

went back to MC tires  after a year

first a Cobra and now the Battleaxe 200

Big D is still running my Toyo Proxes and diggin it.

That said I am considering putting an Altimax on one of my spare rear wheels

The car tire has no equal in wet road traction and braking IMHO

You gave it a shot and formed an opinion based on your experience

Cant ask for more than that YMMV

Seriously.... never got more than 8000 mile out of a rear....Metzler, Avon, Bridgestone, Dunlop...... 12 to 14,000 out of the front.

Until the car tire, I have never completed a trip without a rear tire change on the road..... but they are 8 to 13 K trips.... a little longer this year.
I run the tires to the wearbars.... then they are outta here...the center / left wears out 1st.  Lots of long haul miles on crowned roads

Never tried the E3..... How are they on wet/slick roads????  I understand they have a harder rubber compound.

The most I ever got was about 8k out of my Avons.  The original Dunlop back in 2000 was about 4k miles.   Goodyear TT for me.  Even my wife noticed how much better it rides.  To each is own.  In my case, not following the crowd, just doing what I want, besides, I found pictures from 2004 when I put my first TT on.  Such memories!!!

Hey HG, I run a Metzler ME880 on the HD, and on the Valk IS I run an E-3 front and back. I find it very good in wet or dry, and I will probably stick with that set-up. cooldude

I am curious about the CT though.  Undecided  I might try one on the Valk, down in Florida. The roads down there are generally flatter than up here in New England, so the tendency for the bike to follow ruts, crowns, etc. would not be as great. Frost plays hell with the roads up here. Sad I'll wait till I get back down there and have a face to face converstion with Tropic Traveller to see why he objected to the CT that was on his bike when he bought it. (Eddie, that sounds like a reason for a ride!!!)

Best thing for me would be if I had a second wheel with a CT, just to try it out, but I'm not that curious to spend that much $$$ on that. So it may not happen.   Sad

I'm changing back to a MT myself this winter. I don't have anything bad to say about darksiding and I certainly see advantages to it but for my personal riding style it just doesn't fit as well as I hoped it would.

Plus I never got my damn cookie! 2funny
