I have two inguinal hernias, one on each side.  I have to get them taken care of and am trying to plan the best time. I know I will be off work at least 6 weeks but am wondering how many weeks until I can ride the Valk.  Anyone here have any experience?  Kinda hopen I can ride after about 4 weeks and have two weeks to ride before I go back to work.  My job is pretty much 24/7 50 weeks a year so I value my riding time.  Thanks

Get with your doctor. If he is going to keep you out of work for 6 weeks, i am sure he has an opinion about riding and driving.  I had a double hernia and was out of work for just a short time (desk job), but I remember -- No driving for a month.

My job requires lifting up to 75 Lbs. almost daily.  Otherwise I would have no problem returning to work earlier.

Interesting question.  I had inguinal hernia surgery on  3/20/2008 and went on a 2-month Valk trip on 5/09/2008. My doctor said to wait 8 weeks, so ... we went at 7 weeks.  The Valk IS with us and gear weighed 1210 pounds.  I got sore a couple of times, but we had a great trip (southwestern states).  All I can say is to be careful and pay attention to your body and adapt.  I was age 64 at the time.

i had an inguinal hernia on the right side, had it repaired, took about four weeks before i really started to feel good, after that i took two more weeks, just because it happened on the job and they were paying my time off  Wink.  i don't know about a double, but i'd bet you'd be alright in the saddle after four weeks.

al.

forgot to mention, the pain meds are the worst!  they make you constipated, and bearing down for a BM is NOT the most comfortable thing!!  (you'll find out.)
