October 28, 2011 1:23 PMMANTECA – Stockton resident Lewis Ehles, 22 , has been identified by the Manteca Police Department as the victim of Thursday night's fatal hit-and-run in Manteca.

Ehles was riding his motorcycle eastbound on West Yosemite Avenue around 7 p.m. when a pickup headed northbound on El Portal Avenue pulled out in front of him, said Officer Jason Hensley, a Manteca Police Department spokesman. Ehles struck the truck's left-rear panel and sustained critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital, police said.

The driver of the pickup paused briefly before leaving the scene, Hensley said.

Police are looking for a 2000 blue Dodge Dakota with damage to its left rear quarter panel and a metal rack in its bed. Police ask anyone with information to call San Joaquin South County Crime Stoppers at (209) 823-4636.

Wonder why he left the scene?  All he had to do was say "I didn't see the motorcycle" and he wouldn't even get a ticket.

Still... I hope they catch up with the guy. He didn't even stick around to help.

 Angry

This same type hit and run death 2 days ago right down the street from me.  They caught the truck driver about 200 miles away after seeing him on surveillance video.  A..hole stopped and then fled scene.
  Glad for video.

November 2 2001 My best friends son 19 year old Evan was killed two blocks from his house. 67 year old woman turned left in front of him. He did everything right but went head first into the wheel well of the car. The woman did not recieve a ticket until we contacted the county prosecutor. She was ticketed for failure to yield right of way. I miss him every day and his dad and I share some special rides knowing that he would love to be with us. I know  that day changed her life as well.
Ride and drive safe.

I know I'm one lucky rider.Way back in 1968 one month before my son was born I was going to work in the Sanfernando valley in socal. I was riding a 1966 norton atlas when a woman pulled out is front of me an stopped, blocking my lane.I was getting it on at about 50 mph.I was new to riding an froze. all I could think of was to jump up off the seat when I hit so that i would clear the car, a pontiac.I did so an cleared the roof an landed on the street going backward an broke a toe an my wrist.I had no helmet an street clothes on .I wrapped my arms around my head to help protect it.I got a few scratches an bruises an that was all.I gave up riding for 25 years while my son an daughter were growing up.I started riding again in 1993 with a goldwing an haven't stopped yet.since 1993 I have riddin 290000 mile with no serious accident an hope to keep on going for another ten years at least.i'll be 69 jan 1 an I think my valk is going to outlast me.I am still amazed at how good it is.they are great machines

I teach Motorcycle Awareness Classes at a drivers ed school and at assisted living facilities.
We let our students know that "Distracted Driving" is on the rise in our state (MI), but most accidents do occur at intersections. We use videos, handouts, personal examples, and ask if their family members ride.

But some people just don't or won't listen. To that I do believe: "Kill a Biker,...Go to Jail"
A motorcyclist is no less a human being than a BMW, Lexus, etc driver.
