A little advice from the forum on why/why not to buy a 100,000 mile Interstate?
I am not overly concerned about the motor but what other parts will be showing their age by now? Starter? U-Joint? Rubber isolation(?).
2000 for $4500!?
Any and all comments very much appreciated.
Thx
David

Depends on the PO, how he maintained it. If all service, rear axle final drive lube, etc. If he can produce records, probably not a bad deal. But if he just rode it and did not keep the maintenance up, could be a can of worms.

Life is like a hot bath. It feels good while you’re in it, but the longer you stay in, the more wrinkled you get.

Thanks Grumpy.
Will be in contact this week to see what I can find about service records.

Is there anything that is high dollar to replace/fix? Most things I can wrench myself but I have little interest in tearing a motor down.

I wouldn't worry about records or anything else like that!
If the tins are good and the paint is good and it has all the Interstate parts still on it, I would only be concerned about how it runs and if everything that is on it works.
All the stuff you mentioned is easily replaceable and parts are available.
The price you stated is a good low price and especially so for a good running Valkyrie.
If you do buy it, make a good buy and be sure you get any extra parts that may be also in his keep. like anything he may have replaced with aftermarket parts such as exhaust pipes or seats.

4500 is a price good enough to allow you to take care of the items that may need attention. Set aside $1000 for possible issues and you've still got yourself a fine bike for a great price.
U-joint Alternator rubber all around Pinion Fork seals Bearings Wheel dampers Shocks and/or bushings
All possibles. None guaranteed to need replacement.

I would be more concerned about a low mileage bike than a high mileage one. They develop emphysema when they sit too long. Plus, dry rot and other nasty stuff can take it's toll. 100k on the clock means it's been doing what it was made to do.
