Like most everyone else, I also have my opinion(s) re. the current list of Repub. candidates. My personal choice shall remain just that....personal. But some of what I've read in this post thus far is often always unnecessary. I'm referring to the usual insolent and confrontational approach used by more recent members. Why does every response have to be of that nature? It gets tiresome,  is totally unnecessary when trying to make a point, and most of the time takes away from what is often an otherwise worthwhile statement of position. It strikes me as a rather juvenile approach that smacks of "hey, look at me, I'm about to....."  as though it's supposed to lend more credence to what is about to be said. By prefacing comments with such drivel, I wonder if they realize that it actually takes away from the impact or validity of their comments that follow? Those often insulting remarks are what actually makes the impact and show true colors, not the pertinent comments which follow. Granted, at times we all have done so, but not with nearly every post we generate.

Well said John.

It is juvenile, and attention seeking behavior.  Narcissistic personality disorder.

I didn't know all that 'bagga' about Newt.

As it pertains to ethics as a "politician" it's not even the worst of it.

Where are the Romney voters??
Being in Florida, aka God's waiting room, I can assure you there are lots of them here. They aren't the ones that vote in straw polls but they DO show up on election day.
Personally speaking, Romney is about as exciting as a warm glass of milk but that is exactly what the blue hair vote will want. I'm afraid that a Romney style prez will not recognize the dire straights we are in & at best do too little too late to solve the problem. That will be fine with the left as a collapse of our present economic system is what they truly want. Then they {the left} can point their fingers of blame at capitalism & start building their own version of utopia..... Euro-style socialism where they the smart ones tell us how to live. You know, shared misery.
The Romney vote won't be around as long therefore the long term scenerio of the lefts wishes doesn't scare them, they just want reassurance.
Romney is considered the "play it safe" choice.
Unfortunely I don't think we have the time.

I aint either Fudgie, but I must agree the GOP field isn't as strong as I would like it to be. Newt does have baggage but I thought that was all a wash now.
But I forgot that a lack of morals only hurts conservative office seekers, not liberals.  Roll Eyes

define 'you people' ?

People who get all worked up over the flavor of the month, style over substance "conservative" savior. It submarined the Republican party in 2008 with the selection of Caribou Barbie as McCain's running mate and it's gonna happen again.

As far as personal life transgressions hurting conservatives more than liberals, well, it absolutely SHOULD. Conservatives style themselves as defenders of family values and morality. Most liberals do no such thing. If you talk the talk but don't walk the walk then you're a hypocrite and hypocrites (aka: do as I say not as I do) are among the most loathsome of people. Well when you don't project an image of purity while living a life of debauchery or immorality then you don't really run the risk of being a hypocrite as it pertains to that. You can still be a loathsome hypocrite by doing something else, like telling everyone to be green while you zip around in your private jet (coughGOREcough) but then a climate change denying conservative doesn't risk falling into that trap.

And if you're going to take issue with me then just do it. Don't hide behind vagaries and innuendo. In case you haven't noticed, I can handle myself.

I have taken issue with you and will continue to do so, point to the 'vagaries and innuendo'

I'll be direct, for the most part you have as well. there have been instances of silence when a direct answer was asked for.

'do as I say not as I do' may have been coined by the DNC

conservatives are people too ya know. therefore fallible. there is a never ending attempt by the left to make more of an incident in a Conservatives life. while trying to make the case that liberals are more righteous.
I heard a leftie talk radio personality trying to make the case that Clinton  is more moral then Gingrich. because Newt served an now ex-wife with divorce papers on her death bed when she had cancer. 1. she's still alive and 2. it never happened, his daughter has come forward to tell  the real story years later.
Clinton is more moral because he's stayed with Hillary, even though we know of all the dalliances he's had.
family values and morality, sounds pretty good  cooldude now if we could all stick to the plan

No, I'm not confused. I'm a moderate. Pay particular attention to the part where I said; "It's just that in your world anyone who doesn't buy the party line 100% or have a standing offer to provide oral sex to Ted Nugent is a liberal". That reactionary component is a very real phenomenon.

Yes, I have some liberal views. I'll cop to being a raging liberal when it comes to education. I also do not believe that corporations who reap the same benefits that individual Americans do should be exempt from footing their share of the bill for them (although I don't personally think that's a "liberal" value).

But I also have some conservative views. I own guns and believe firmly in the second amendment. I'm staunchly pro-military and believer that defense spending is a good thing. I also like to see the US military rain hell upon people who seek to do us harm. I think that welfare recipients should submit to drug testing and be required to perform SOME type of community service to earn their bread, but I also believe that social programs are to some extent a necessary evil. I have some zero tolerance views when it comes to certain crimes but I also believe that what I do to my body is my own business. I'm pro-life (except for certain circumstances such as; a threat to the mother's life). I believe it should be called Christmas and not "the holidays" or some other all-inclusive bullshit and that that any Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, scientologists, atheists, agnostics etc. who have a problem with it can all kiss my ass and the ass of Jesus while they're at it (if I have to put up with ONE Adam Sandler Chanukkah cartoon then they can watch every Christmas special ever made and like it), but that doesn't mean that there's no place for these people in America if they can get with the program and be good citizens. I stand WITH Arizona on SB1070 as currently constituted and I believe that America has to take more effective steps to curtail illegal immigration and seal the porous border, but I don't hate Mexicans for wanting to escape that cesspool of a country. And lastly, I'm not really all that fond of Barack Obama's administration.

I also have some views that split the difference down the middle. But I also don't buy into jingoism and reactionary bullshit and the kind of rhetoric that works up a base. I think that people who follow party lines and swallow bait are suckers. I also think that things are rarely (if ever) as simple as they seem.

I'm also a realist and I know that small government is simply not possible in a nation of 300 million people. Government needs to be more efficient and more accountable, not necessarily smaller. We're a first world superpower (or at least we WERE) and that takes infrastructure and organization. Those things come with a price and that is public management (government). Those seeking to drown government in a bathtub are pissing up a tree. Not gonna happen.

After reading your "position post" as I suspected we are very close in our political views. Maybe it's the part about giving libs a pass on "personal life transgressions" because they are supposed to be louts from the start I can't buy. I watched the lib media not only give Clinton a pass on his dealie, but downright defend him. It's only sex right? Can't we get on with the country's business? Roll Eyes

That "bathtub" remark is a quote from a Tea Party Congressman.

But didn't we know Clinton was a lech when he was elected? I don't really care all that much how Newt runs is personal life if he's an effective leader and legislator. I mean I certainly don't endorse that kind of behavior but we don't elect them for that. But I DO have a problem with him trying to skewer Clinton for it while he was doing the same thing himself.

IIRC, Huntsman is dingy harry's choice.

Everyone - not just those running for office - has baggage, so throw that out.  After that, Newt has the biggest brain on the stage.

I love the fact that Cain is a businessman first.  The fact that he's a conservative black man makes libs, the MSM, and many other blacks verge on vapor lock.  I love Ron Paul.  He is right on so many issues.  Too bad he only got 89 friggin seconds to talk last night.

Newt's historical perspectives and his seemingly instant recall of them are impressive.  No ums or stammers from him.  No teleprompter, either.  He would SHRED barry in any debate setting and I would pay to see it!  The prospect of seven three-hour Lincoln Douglas debates against soetoro is delicious.

Newt rocks.

...one could also melt an anvil and turn it into something more useful - not too many blacksmiths running around these days...

I keep hearing people say that but I see no actual evidence to support it. Simply recalling historical events does not make one intelligent. You need to collate that knowledge into something meaningful. Gingrich hasn't really done that.

Well I kinda just shared them didn't I?

It's not my intention to belittle anyone, not directly anyway. People can have stupid opinions without being stupid. Heck, I've had some pretty stupid opinions over the course of my life, probably still do.

But this is not a one-way street. I've taken my share of nasty insults here. It doesn't bother me.

What I really find laughable in all of this recent development about Gingrich though (and this is a national thing) is that a month ago nobody gave a crap about Gingrich because they were in love with Herman Cain. Turns out that he's not all that smart and he may be a sex offender so now all of a sudden it's "oh Newt is so smart! **fap-fap-fap*** Newt's our man!" Before that it was Rick Perry, Barbara Bachmann, Bobby Jindal, Sarah Palin... all have proven to be woefully inadequate. Meanwhile Mitt just keeps on chugging along as the guy at the dance no one really wants to take the floor with.

The Republican nominee is going to be a default selection and if they are elected President it will be for the same reason. That's not really good for anyone.

Your lack of conviction seems liberal, you call it open mindedness but I think that you have your own beliefs and a deep rooted conviction for them ,yet rather than share your own, you belittle others that are more forthcoming than yourself. Is this your intention ?  ??? We are all friends here..............................................

You did !  I have been waiting for you to share, before I asked the question....why did it take so long?  Were you afraid someone like Anvil might see it ?   Undecided   Dont talk about your freakflag...FLY IT  PROUD!

So Anvil is an equal opportunity crap stirrer, does not mater what your views are.... he will disagree with them even if you change your mind 180 degrees.    laugh

Everyone - not just those running for office - has baggage, so throw that out.  After that, Newt has the biggest brain on the stage.

I keep hearing people say that but I see no actual evidence to support it. Simply recalling historical events does not make one intelligent. You need to collate that knowledge into something meaningful. Gingrich hasn't really done that.

At least an anvil can be useful, even for it's raw materials. Disco has never been good for anything.  Wink

I.'ve liked Newt since he was Speaker of the House. Even before that with his Contract with America concept.

To say one sees no evidence of his intelligence would suggest that you've not listened to him speak. At least not seriously listened to the ideas he's supporting and developing.
He's written much and served the country well. His American Solutions project is working on solutions to some of the issues we are going to be facing in the future.

Do I agree with him 100%? Nope.
Is he sometimes his own worst enemy? Yup.

Would I vote for him as President. Absolutely.

I would expect if he gets the nomination to look for a variation of the Contract with America concept and to not only campaign for himself but an entire like minded Congress.

Hope he gets the nod. If anything, it'll be interesting.

Was going to post this in the "Go Newt" post, but think it deserves a new one.  Smiley

  My prediction . . .

There is no strong Republican candidate.  Newt is a smart and savvy politician.  His 3 wives and philandering while pursuing Clinton dooms his chances.   Cain will not get enough womens' votes and he doesn't have the political background, know how and experience.  Perry continues to blunder through debates and will not recover from his immigration history.  Bachman and Paul should have dropped out already.  Paul is sincere with a few good ideas, but doesn't have a chance.  Who even knows who Huntsman is?

The candidate who will be the Republican nominee, Mitt Romney, is like a chameleon, changing colors with the political climate and will never survive the final race to the finish line.

Many conservatives will vote for whoever opposes Obama, but . . .

Obama WILL be the next President of the United States of America.  Not a huge fan, but I will reference this post a year from now.  Mark my words and place your bets.  Evil Evil

I agree. Obama will be reelected and Hillary will take over in 2016...  Smiley
In my view, the best Republican candidate is indeed, John Huntsman... by far! Lips Sealed

BTW, donaldcc, do you ever ride with the SoCal VRCC Chapter people? I've done it twice.
Nice folks. coolsmiley

Grin Jess not necessarily my personal choice, just assessing the odds like a sporting event.  As in last nights football game,  I am a fan of Sanchez, but Patriots were 3 point underdogs  Shocked and I couldn't pass that up.  Brady is too good for those odds.  Won a few $$ from my buddy.  Smiley

A little off topic, but . . .

Paxton sent you a PM but yes, a couple rides with SoCAl VRCC. . . Kudos to BigMac for putting together great rides.  Can't seem to hook up with them as much as I would like.  Darn, working for a living is too time consuming.  laugh

Like the VTX you got and would like to park one next to my Valk.  Give me a shout if you are out this way and I will do the same.  cooldude

If I were a Jets fan (and I'm not) I would drive to Brian Schottenheimer's house and punch him right in the face. I honestly thoughg the Pats had NO shot at winning that game, only because the secondary might be the worst in the league.

The Jets are a dumb team, from coaching to players.

I knew that.  But even IF true those words (prediction) should not be put in print (or even thought).   crazy2      It gave me gas reading it.

I just saw a video of a portion of the GOP debate.  Without a doubt Jon Huntsman is thoughtful, articulate and presidential.  He was without peer on the stage.  If the Republicans don't nominate Huntsman they will surely lose the election.  Bachmann and Cain are comical by comparison.

I heard him on an interview on satellite radio today and also thought he was very articulate and experienced in foreign affairs.  Don't like the outline of his tax plan. His poll numbers are abysmal  however and he seems like a very long shot.

But polls are exceedingly fickle. Just look at how they've been over the past three months.

And maybe the Republican party should say screw it and not pay so much attention to them anyway.
