Have spent the last two plus hours trying to download my playlist to m Zumo 550. Tried going direct to unit via USB, nothing. Tried direct to memory card, nothing. When I open up the memory card on my computer, It shows an Itune file on it. I can open it on my computer, but when I install the card back into the Zumo, nothing. Have formatted iTunes to mp3 from mp4. Help Please, what am I doing wrong. Brett

Hi Bret,

I remember this from some time back.
If memory serves me, I copied the individual songs onto the memory chip from my iTunes library.
(using explorer)
I clearly had more than 'an iTunes' file. I had individual song files.
They were seen by the 550 instantly and played fine.
(I was doing this on a PC, not a Mac)

Hope that helps.

If I remember my days at Dell properly, Itunes will only load files onto an Apple device, like an Ipod; and only once. It's their way of protecting copyrights. One song, one purchase, one device; so you only have one legal copy of the song you purchased.

If you can get the converted files into a folder outside itunes, use Explorer (Windows) to transfer them.

iTunes files are ACC format, and the Zumo only plays MP3 files.  You'll have to convert your iTunes files to that mp3 format to play them, even though your player may show that there's the iTune file there, it can't read it.

Garmin specifies a 4GB SD card for the 550.  However, the community has found it will read much more than that.  I have used 16GB; my main tunes card is 8GB.

You need to load them as mp3's as already stated.  You also need to limit your playlist to NO MORE than 1,000 tunes.  They have hard-coded that "magic number" into the firmware - it will recognize ONLY 1,000 tunes.  #1001 doesn't exist to the 550.

Secondly, you need to structure them into a LOT of directories.  I use 40 directories of 25 tunes each.  If you don't do it this way, you will wait a LONG time for the unit to respond.  It just sits there for miles, "looking for satellites", while it's actually reading the contents of the entire last-tunes directory. So you want that last-accessed directory to be small.

Everything Mark says above has proven true for my 550 also.
