Beautiful east Tennessee ( GOD'S Country )

« on: November 19, 2011, 05:13:27 PM »

I actually thought I'd be doing this ride alone however this morning Gordon ( Lucky 13 ) and Greg ( Smooth Rider ) showed up for the ride.It turns out that the legendary Confederate partisan ranger and guerilla fighter Champ Ferguson's yankee brother James Ferguson  is who killed James M. Saufley. Tennessee had more brother against brother soldiers than any other state fighting each other in the Civil War.First picture's taken at High Bridge as you enter The Big South Fork.

Travisville,Tennessee is where James M. Saufley ( first killed Confederate from The Great State Of Tennessee in the war of Northern Aggression ) is buried this was a outstanding ride we did some beautiful country getting here and the roads was awesome with tight curves and long hammer down sweepers.

We wandered off down these Kentucky backroad's after leaving Travisville,Tennessee and found some great roads that all of us said we would return to ride again. We made our way into Byrdstown , Tennessee on the way home for some lunch and to keep the Confedrate blood flowing we ate at The Dixie Cafe  Smiley

Check out the temp this evening in Byrdstown,Tn it was a beautiful day in God's Country today.

Can feel the passion that you have for the Civil War.  I was interested and when I saw Ken Burns documentary I was hooked.

An amazing event that still shapes our country today....150 years later.

Great report.

My youngest daughter used to research things to see along our routes, and that cemetery is one of them.

Supposedly, we have a Great or Great Great Uncle who is buried there.   Not sure what outfit he was with as the older family members when they were alive were VERY VERY damn tight lipped about the war.

I know they finally settled in Thorn Hill, TN afterwards.

All I could ever get out of my family was he was born about 1830.   NO month or day.   Don't have a deceased date either.

What was his name ? Most of the older markers are very hard to read as most are rocks with the names chiseled on them.We ride up through Thorn Hill all the time we can make a nice day ride hoop that follows beautiful Norris Lake and the headwaters of the Clinch and Powell Rivers. Thats a nice area  cooldude

As of now " The Ride To Vicksburg " is still a go after Christmas.I've been by The Siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi several times while ridin' The Natchez Trace but time was always a issue and we never stopped this time we'll ride to outside of Hattieburg, Mississppi for the night and make the saturday ride to Vicksburg with plenty of time to check out the battlefield.

I always get a chortle out of that "war of northern aggression" line.

The country looks like Vermont. Very pretty.
