Cold ride I'm sure, but is enough of it open in the winter months to make the trip worthwhile? what about ice on the bridges, is that a major problem?

Seems like there's a website that updates BRP conditions/closings.
I THINK it stays open until it snows, but I'm not sure.

We plan on doing " The Kiss My Ice Ride " to Mt. Mitchell on New Years Day. We do it every year only missed a couple because of  weather ( ice-snow ).2010 it was rainin' sideways when we left out with heavy fog we did make it to Hot Springs,NC and made the call to do the safe thing and call it off.

You'd have to be brave or loopy to ride it in winter. Can't imagine the ice, cloud, fog a rider would encounter on the southern half.

Any day that you ride is a good day!

I ride the VA section often in the winter time.

But I can see where parts of the NC section could stay closed for most of the winter.

Thanks for the link, just bookmarked it. Looks like it's prolly best to call before taking the trip. Gotta be an awesome ride with snow on the ground.
