I can legally run red lights starting tomorrow.....yeaaaaaaa

Apologies if this has already been posted and I'm not sure if any other state allows it, but in Illinois, we can legally run red lights if we've stopped for a reasonable amount of time and our bikes haven't tripped the inductive sensors in the road.

What's interesting is that the "reasonable amount of time" hasn't been defined in the new law.
Most folks are thinking it means 2 minutes, but that part will have to be figured out later.

Several yrs ago, I did run a red after waiting patiently for the light to turn. I did see a car coming way down the road...a white one, but he was over a quarter mile away. When I did decide to go, sure enough, it was a LEO. He pulled me over and after hearing my explanation, he admitted he was a biker also, and let me go. This is a law that makes sense, provided it's not abused.

Most definitely, musclehead...I guess the enthusiasm in the post title might have implied reckless abandon. I think all most of us are asking for, and what the law delivers, is that we can now treat
a nonworking redlight(after two minutes) as a stop sign and proceed after yielding to anybody even close that has the right of way.

Cool.  Now if I'm passing through ILL and I get stuck at a light, it's less likely a cop will pull me over and then notice the bulge under my jacket...  Seriously though, I have family in the midwest but fortunately they aren't in ILL, and located such that I'm able to avoid the state.  Which I do, as a protest against their anti-carry laws.  And other stupidities, like putting jokers like Blagojevich in office. And Mayor Daly and his kid.  And the bozo in the white house.

I used to keep a magnet under the bike.  A 250-lb pull magnet from Harbor Freight.  There were two lights in my regular commute that never tripped - until I installed the magnet. Then they always tripped.  So I'm thinkin it worked.  Though others say they don't, my experience differs.  Then the highway dept got tons of money from all the growth that was going on in the mid 200x's, replaced the lights & their controls, and my new Wing always tripped the lights, and I removed the magnet to install some underlights, and didn't bother to put the magnet back on. Must have been a better sensor device.  I got tired of pulling the Harley parts off it anyway...

Well....technically...if you STOP and wait for a reasonable time you're not
really RUNNING the red light. But I know what you mean. TN passed this law a
few years ago. I've only used it a few times.
