Yes, at a ride in where the bike was less than a mile from the hotel.
Otherwise I do not drink and drive.
I stopped doing criminal law after a friend got his 3rd DWI I had saved his ass twice before
and yes I made him do the AA thing
The 3rd time he hit a parked police cruiser at an accident scene Nobody was hurt but
I could not ever help another person in such a fact pattern again
My friend blew a 2.8 by the way and had NO memory of the accident He lost his job and his marriage

I won't stop for mixed a drink or a beer while I'm riding or driving. But, I'll have a drink or a beer, and with a long sit, maybe two with dinner while riding but not if I'm driving a cage.
It's hard enough to stay alert while being bored in a cage. Alcohol would only make it worse. When I have to drive a cage then I don't drink anything which doesn't contain caffeine, the more the better. For me, the only way to stay alert when mailing myself somewhere in a cage is to have someone interesting to talk to or to have a good audio book. I suppose some would call either one distracted driving, but they probably have a higher boredom threshold than I do.
I am just curious. I have seen the word "cage" mentioned in several post on this thread. Can someone tell me what that means?? They say cage because they can't spell "car" |

I don't drink alcohol much to begin with, prefer a good cup of coffee. I play music with a few chums who think they sound better after a few drinks. I've recorded them before and after a few drinks. They were shocked to hear how much better they play cold sober. It's a lesson for us all. I have 3 brothers, we all ride. The rule is drink only after the riding for the day is done, no exceptions.
Good rule to have. I couldn't help but laugh while reading your post. I've been playing for quite a while now and remember when we all used to drink and rehearse, we all thought the timing, instruments and vocals were excellent -UNTIL I played it back the next morning. The volume was high on the mixer board and I couldn't cut it down or off fast enough!!!   |

An episode of WKRP suddenly came to mind. The one where the DJ's were given drinks and had their response time (ringing a bell I think) measured. Dr. Johnny Fever kept getting faster and faster the drunker he got.
He is absolutely blotto and his response time is near instantaneous.

Yes... I know my limits and will have 1 or 2 with dinner or when the mood takes... however, seldom more than one on the bike.....
There is a reason for a Legal limits.... most people can have a drink or 2 and still function quite normally... possibly better... some people should not drink at all..... up to you and your body....

No....not at all. I have a Pilot friend that is known to tie one on once in a while........but never if there is a chance of flying that day. He's a good example.

The story told to me by my Dad was that he came home with 100' of fence hooked on his wheels once. He also rolled his truck on the way to a family reunion once and showed up covered with potato salad. |
