NASA predicts a solar storm and possible huge emp bigger than the one in 1958.Could have catastrophic consequences. Our bike electrical system and computer wont work if that happens will it?I work in a hospital, in ICU.I have since the navy in 1969.My wife is a retired nurse. We took care of tornado victims in 1979 with limited electricity and no running water.I hope todays technology is better protected for such an event.

"Big" emp on a planet-wide/electrical grid scale is still insignificant emp for the small/shielded circuits in cars/trucks/mc's and other devices. The reason a solar pulse can impact electrical grids is because they are so huge. Think of an antenna...ignoring particular wavelength design, the bigger they are the more energy they can pick up. Hundreds of thousands of miles of power lines spread out all over the continent can pick up significant energy from a solar based emp pulse, the circuits in our bikes/appliances will not. They are insignificant on the scale they are talking about.
Unless it's spiked by a surge on the grid, a device isn't going to be permanently affected by any survivable solar event.

Don't know the answer to this, but not taking any chances so will ride this year like there is no next year! Let's ride before the solar flares and Mothra and Gamera take out the ECMs on our Valks!!

Thank you for that explanation.the solar max of 1958 was hardly noticed because computers and cellphones and high tech didnt exist.the usa is vulnerable as is any other country with like technological dependence. The next solar max is predicted to be 30-50% stronger than the one in 1958.

ha ha ha ha.thats funny dan.I am a Christian. So I beleive what the bible says.I dont try to force my beliefs on anybody. But for the record,my instruction manual aka the bible says not even Jesus himself knows when He is coming back or everything hits the fan.I also know the earth as we know it is going to last at least another 1,007 years. At the end of that time our burnt out messed up bombed up ruined earth is going to be replaced.Or so I believe.

Have you got a link? The article I read on the NASA site had no such dire predictions.

NIBIRU 2012 A.D.
Here's what NASA has to say about it: http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/yoemans20091110.html"Nibiru, a purported large object headed toward Earth, simply put - does not exist. There is no credible evidence - telescopic or otherwise - for this object's existence. There is also no evidence of any kind for its gravitational affects upon bodies in our solar system."

SOMEBODY's got to build and launch those solar probes/bombs. You don't think solar flares just pop up by themselves, do you?
