Many pistols are more accurate than others..... and many pistols fit your hands better with better sights and triggers than others (overall ergonomics).

A better pencil wouldn't make you a better writer, as in wordsmith, but a better pencil can improve your handwriting, and that's the aspect we XD fans say the XD can help with. It won't improve the tactics or shoot/don't shoot aspects of shooting, but it can improve how well an individual person can shoot their gun in the "putting the holes where you want the holes to be put" aspect. It's intelligently laid out to be ergonomic and take advantage of the human "pointing finger" reflex, where you can instinctively point your finger relatively accurately at something without even looking at it...

Same effect with everyone? Of course not. But I too can shoot far better with my XDs then most of my other handguns. (My 1911s are close, but that'd probably be because the XD copies the grip angles of the 1911 in the first place.)

I just bought the XD-m .45 3.8 last week.  Fantastic!  I was a little concerned that the short grip would be hard to handle but it's not, it's extremely accurate and no problem with rapid fire/follow up shots even in the short configuration.  Brilliant design to have the 9 round mag for CC and be able to switch to a 13 round mag with the grip extension.  It's now my new CC piece.  I like to carry IWB and was also concerned about it being wider and bulkier than the compact 1911 I usually carry but it's fine.  I've had the full size XD-m .40 for a couple of years so I already knew these are great guns.  It's the first polymer .45 I've owned, I've always had 1911's, but the XD-m was the first one to entice me to switch. Very happy with it.
