Of course we might miss it a bit and the 26th is Sunday. So that is extra room for error.
February 14th is Valentines Day and my wife was born on that day as well.
SO can't leave before then.
It would be the kiss of death for me.

There's only one Mardi Gras. ANd that is just the 1st stop on a Southern Journey to the southern most point and all around to various sundries and peropits of adventure.

Al, Have you thought about doing the St. Patty's Day gig at Savanah Ga. (March 17) then head down to Key West? I believe you would like it better than Mardi Gras. I've done both...and agree with Bamadrifter, New Orleans during Mardi Gras smells like a urnal. (Not trying to discourage you from doing your trip to New Orleans, just throwing it out there for plan B.)

I've heard the horror stories about nowhere to park the skyrocket price's they demand for motel rooms standing in line for everything etc. I've never been to Mardi Gras but we did Savanah a couple years ago in November and I'm bettin' it will be the same as far as prices, lines and nowhere to park the bike safely.I've been to New Orleans several times in my life just never during Mardi Gras. When I saw Big Al talking about this ride on FB I thought what the hell if he's going I'll go check it out.I love riding on the coast line and that's the main reason I'd like to go as I could care less about dealing with the masses of Mardi Gras.

I lived in New Orleans a while. Mardi Gras is a good time NOT to be there. French Quarter Festival is much better and the weather is usually nicer.

Will be getting there on Thursday and leaving the Wednesday following MG (sad to say without the Fat Lady). I stay with family when I am down there...get to most of the parades and a couple of the Balls (Orpheuscapade). Mardi Gras is what you make it...if you want a drunken time...then it is...if you want to see a lot of people having a good time...then so be it. Most of the nudity is in the quarter which I tend to stay out of...no need to see drunken tourists. Have ridden in parades there and watched from the ground. Both are ok...have recently joined a Mardi Gras Krewe in Charleston...just a ball this year but will be having a parade next year to it will be the only one on the East Coast to have it. Let me know if everyone is going to meet somewhere...and will try to make it.

Here is a video of last year - Mardi Gras in Navarre Beach, Florida. Very, very cool place to do it in. Small - lots of beads and stuff - great food and street party. (yes, there is a food shot or two in this one).

Good call Warren.
Since posting this I am more and more thinking not to Mardi Gras but to Navarre Beach or some such and then on to
Key West, kinda of a bucket list thing since being diagnose with Chronic Beryllium Desease.
My trips will need to be in cooler weather to cope with the lack of blow in my blowers.
Not too bad yet but time will tell how bad I am and how I tolerate the problem.
Yes we all have our problems, but we need to keep having fun and loving all of our friends while we are here.
Amen

Yes thanks Britman.. This Group is a tight knit bunch and Wheezin2@aol.com, Glen Bell is a personal friend. He was in My Uncle's Van Club back in the 70's and Glen is a wonderful artist, mechanic, and Cold War Patriot. Cold War Patriot is my call in life as well. We sacrificed along with 10's of thousands of people to keep the War Machine Well lubed with what it needed to defeat the Soviet Union, Now just Russians. Roughly a third of my coworkers are dead or dying, as well as my Dad's coworkers as he worked 10 years at a National Laboratory not to be named here, but all of his coworkers met a untimely end. He still reamains as he earned a Bachelor of Science Degreee from the University of Tennessee and escaped to the free market or business world and he is thankful to be alive as well. Can't tell you much but one day all will know what we did and accomplished to keep the free world free. But I would do it again. Knowing even the cost of my service. Thanks for the Link, it means a lot that someone cares. Like you.
