I'm in the Hill Country this weekend and looking at some potential places to stay in October.

First report:  This is where my wife and I are staying this weekend - the Peach Tree Inn & Suites.  Older place but the rooms are nice.  Hardwood floors.  Many rooms open onto a motor courtyard.  It's one of those places where there are covered parking spots next to each room.  Paved.  The weekend rate was $59 for a deluxe king suite and lower for other rooms.  Each room has chairs outside of the room for sitting and there are areas for sitting around in the center grass area.

Then there are rooms that open to what looks like a park with grills.

Not a good continental breakfast, but you're only 2 blocks off of Main Street so easy to walk or a quick ride.

More tomorrow as we visit other places.

Here's the pictures:

NO, that's not mine!

Microwave and Fridge in each room.

Man, I can see a fire in the fire pit out in the median on those rocks by the metal chairs/table.

Might even consider moving the Mid Winter Gathering to that motel.  Looks very good.

Here's a few more.    Lots of green areas.

At the rear of the place.

The view isn't all that great and there is no firepit, but there are some bbq grilles.

The rear side of the largest building.  Seems to be a lot of rooms here.  Front is on the courtyard.

That's it for this place.  We're going to check out one tomorrow that Flamingo Babe saw on the last Hill Country Ride.

Looking at their website, looks like the rooms are pretty nice....and with covered parking, the option of a full-blown kitchen, a few nice grillin' pits in a spacious yard....looks like a good reason to meet up with several good freinds here.

Ya know, it would be awsome if Rainmaker sparks a trend here . . . VRCC members everywhere posting exceptional places they discover while traveling.  Great to know there is this place in Fredricksburg where the bike can park protected from the elements, reasonable rates and a variety of amenities/creature comforts to choose from.

Thanks for posting RainMaker

i'll add a spot.  tj and i have stayed at this place in surfside during the last 2 lonestar rallys.  it's right on the beach, restaurant on sight and we were able to park underneath the raised building.

Country Inn Lake Resort in Hot Springs.

Right on the lake. Decent view. Boat slips. Dock for swimming. Covered patio on both levels all the way down the back side with chairs and tables. BBQ grills. Very biker friendly. 99 bucks a night in-season for a room with a stocked kitchen (pots, pans, silverware, etc.), 87.50 out of season. Good layover spot on the way to Eureka Springs if you don't wanna make the trip in one day...

Checked out Hunters House in Ingram - rooms dated, not a great location and, most importantly, nothing else in Ingram.  Went to Leakey and the D'Rose Inn looks kinda' run down since our last visit.  Back in Fredericksburg, the Hanger Inn looks good but it isn't downtown.

Peach Tree manager says they are busy in October and won't block rooms since they have a lot of business then. So if we pick this place, we need to start reserving asap.

Took the wife on 336 today in the mini-van. She said I drove too fast and wasn't impressed. Guess I'll be riding solo next time! ;)

The question is not what you look at...but what you see...

I also looked at Hangar Hotel, Dietzel Inn, Frontier Inn, Sunrise Inn and the Miller Inn in Fredricksburg plus the Swiss Lodge in Blanco.  The Miller Inn has some shelter parking but it's way to the east side of town and looks run down.  The Sunrise Inn looks OK but doesn't have the courtyard.  It does have a pretty decent cafe attached, though.  The Dietzel Inn is just at the west end of town and would be OK as well.  Frontier Inn is a bit further west and again would be OK.  However, neither has the sheltered parking nor grassy areas.  The Hanger Hotel is a luxury place, built on the airport and populated by pilots.  It alone has a bar inside and it's pretty cushy.  The rooms - incredible.  The price - $179 per night on the weekends.  Whoo-ahh!  And they would like us to keep it quiet.  Guess that rules out the Hanger Hotel!!!!!

Overall, my #1 pick is the Peach Tree Inn.  My wife asked me why I kept looking after finding this place because she said it was so much better than the other places we looked at.

Currently, the Oct 12-13-14 weekend is pretty open at the Peach Tree so we could reserve most all the rooms if we choose that place.

I now turn this over to Rocketman, our regional rep, to get his reaction and recommendations.

On another note, went on the Willow City Loop and also took a drive out to the Old Tunnel Wildlife Mgmt Area on the Old San Antonio Hwy, then the Old Fred Hwy and then back on FM-423.  Folks, this is one twisty, roller coaster road that MUST be on our routes for the Hill Country gathering.  There's an Old railway tunnel at this place and it's apparently full of 3 million bats between May and October.  You can't go in there (and why would you want to?) but you can watch the bats fly out in the evening.  There is also a restaurant close to the bat cave.

End of this report.
