In the picture below, you can see the light bar (I believe that it's a Cobra) that I have with the stock Honda front directionals. What I'd like to do is replace the stock directionals with a nice LED set.

Any suggestion or opinions?

It is not a Cobra, Cobra's are flat on top.

As far as directional signals, any thing will work that you can mount on the black bracket holding the other light.

Otherwise you will have to run all over looking for mounting brackets.

I used to have some Quarter size lens LED's but some of the LED's burned out, so I went back to stock.

Here is a link to a good source, this is where I buy stuff from now.

Maybe rather than replacing the entire directional housing, I'll try to find an amber LED bulb insert that simply replaces the current bulb.

Check with your local auto parts stores.  I have a set of red 1157 LED bulbs in my rear turn signals that I converted to Run/Turn lights.  They have amber and I believe clears bulbs also.

Your light bar is a Big Bike Parts light bar.  Most likely, this one.....

http://www.bigbikeparts.com/Inventory/Navision/55-312?catalogNo=1

The instuctions for it are here.....

http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/installguides/BBP-55-312.pdf

Your best bet would probably be to shop at Big Bike Parts as they've already got stuff that'll mount straight to that light bar.

However, you've already suggested the easiest thing to do.....replace your bulbs with led's.  If you do, you'll need an led flasher relay to go with them to prevent them from hyper/rapid flashing.

http://www.bigbikeparts.com/Inventory/Navision/13-306?catalogNo=1

You can use a load equalizer, but they can generate alot of heat and finding a good place to put something that makes alot of heat on your Valk could pose a problem.

As stated above, you have a big bike parts bar, I bought these off of FleeBay somewhere, I really don't remember where. It took a little reworking, but nothing major.  Sorry I don't have a better picture for you. I did not have a problem with the LED's not working until I added them on the rear also, then I had to ad the load equalizer to get them to flash properly.

Years ago I installed Kisan's flasher that times out and shuts off - you can pick from several intervals.  Also pause the countdown if you connect the extra wire to the brake lights circuit.  Bonus, when I installed LED "bulbs" later I didn't have to deal with the wrong resistance - the digital Kisan circuit handles it.  I don't know what their current flasher's options are, if they are the same or they have added something.  I also rewired the rear marker lights so they are run, brake & turn, using red LED's on a board (24 per side, I think it was) that has an 1157 socket, inside a clear lens.

Look at the superbright LED website for replacement bulbs. They are good people and took a bulb back that I ordered wrong not charging me the added postage. Replacement LED bulbs are about 9.50 each.

Just make sure you replace your turn signal relay with one that can handle LEDs or put the load equalizers in.  I opted to replace the relay...went with an Optronics solid state relay.  I don't remember the part number but could probably find it if interested.  Another vendor may have one that is a direct replacement (meaning you don't have to cut the stock plug off) but I couldn't locate it when I needed it or didn't want to wait for it to come in.

It looks like 'Big Bike Parts' has the load equalizer. I might as well get it from them being I have their Contour Light bar. I'm also considering using their LED directionals as they should also be compatible with that light bar.

Thanks for the suggestions!  cooldude

One more thing...if you go with the load equalizers, i believe you have to put one on each led light.

With the signal minder you will not need load equalizers and will get a automatic shut off too. If you really want to you can have your signals do the parade signal and the alternate or finally have true 4 way flashers too. All with the signal minder. I have all leds including the reflectors on the side of the radiator, with the exception of the headlight and light bar road lights. Nice easy brighter and uses less power.  Eventually will convert the road lights too.
