Finnally got the info for the New Mexico Ride In, formally Tucumcari. After many requests for some riding and a change of scenery we decided to move this event from Tucumcari to Las Vegas NM, we only did this after we received the blessing from the couple who started Tucumcari.
A few of us met with the manager of the hotel yesterday, got the grand tour and locked in a room rate, we also secured a BBQ area and the hotel will block off part of the parking lot just for us. The hotel has a pool and hot tub, and each room has a microwave and fridge.
I've asked the staff here to create a sign up page so we can get a head count. If you have any questions you can email or PM me.

The pic below is from yesterday, this is from one of the jail scenes in the Movie Easy Rider.

WHERE: Las Vegas, New Mexico
WHEN: Memorial Day Weekend, May 25 thru 28
HOTEL: Days Inn, Las Vegas NM
2000 North Grand Ave, LV NM 87701
505-425-1967
Ask for "VALKYRIE" group rate.
Price for King or two Queens is $59.99 per night.

The hotel looks to be a great place for the Ride In. Plenty of space for Games?? Great riding in the area.
Here is Mr.Arn, Gary and SCAIN in front of the hotel. The hotel has 36 rooms and they also own the hotel next door if there is any overflow. Continental breakfast in the morning and Continental SNACKS in the evening. I have never heard of that, but WOOHOO. They also have an 8 burner portable gas grill for our use. cooldude I cant wait to see all my friends again!!!!!

I'm glad the weather cleared up for a nice ride. I think it was in the upper 20's as I was heading down the hill out of Los Alamos at about 8AM.

Sorry for the limited pic's but the Gerbings are just not that action-camera friendly.

On the trip back I was able to shed the jacket liner and sport some regular riding gloves without a facewrap.  cooldude

I hit home right at 5:PM. I believe the high's broke into the upper 40's.  Smiley

Here's a shot of the group at the centrally located meet spot in Santa Fe, the parking lot of Real Food Nation.

I believe here F6Banger was showing the best technique to avoid the dreaded left side tire wear.  Wink

Outside of Tito's downtown area.

Homeward bound traveling along I-25 toward Santa Fe.

Sure was great to see Steve and Chuck again and meet MrArn, not to mention get in a couple hundred miles.  cooldude

Is this the same ride Kendall and Des put on or is that ride still going on as well ? Seems I saw a few months ago where folks was already making reservations @ the Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumcari. I've always wanted to make that ride a couple of my ridin' buds did it a couple years ago ( Lucky 13 and Normandog ) .

I will be in Tucumcari, as I know others will, as well.  cooldude  I do know that the new owners of the Blue Swallow were looking forward to it and the owners of the Safari, too.  In addition, prior to leaving there last year, those in attendance were asked if they wanted to return to Tucumcari next year and the answer was yes.  That said, Tucumcari is where I will be!  cooldude

No offense Motomama,

All the people I talked to wanted to move it. That is why we are moving it.

All I am saying Chuck, is that when that question was asked last year at the Tucumcari gathering, it was agreed upon by those in attendance to have it there again.  It is a shame that those who wanted to move it didn't voice that at the time it was discussed, as I don't think there were as many as you think.  I don't think it is really fair to those hotel owners in Tucumcari that were told we would be back and planning on it, along with all of the people that had already made their reservations for this year to just up and move it on them.  Plans had already been made and were in place and changing it in mid-stream is not fair to any of those involved.

Have you guys taken in to consideration how it is affecting the motels in Tucumcari?  And out of courtesy to them, have you even contacted them to let them know that you changed things on them?  It would be common courtesy to at least let them know that you decided to blow them off and change things after they had already been told we would be back.

Another semi-local riding area for a potential ride while attending the gathering...

Pecos National Historic Park. I took this one in on my return trip home from the 2009 Tucumcari BBQ. National Park Passes honored.  Smiley  Otherwise it's a $3.00 entrance fee.

For more info: http://www.nps.gov/peco/index.htm

You can pass through the park itself in short order as there are not a significant amount of ruins to tour through. I found it interesting invisioning the original plains natives, early settlers, missionaries landing there, building there, and more importantly living there with the inclimate weather. Conveniently located right off of I-25, about 45 miles from Las Vegas, NM and makes for a nice potential outing.

No comparison to say... a Bandelier National Monument which is about another good hour ride NW from there and offers great cliff dwelling ruins to take in. Bandelier is definitely a nice place to tour for sure as well as some great riding along Hwy 4 through the Jemez Mountains.

Here's a couple from Bandelier NM should you feel adventurous...

Back to more local touring...

Touring, strolling, hiking amongst ancient ruins not for you? The Pecos River runs in part along hwy 63N (very close to Pecos NP), not really a twisty rippin road but I guess that's entirely up to the rider...

Hwy 63N ultimately dead ends, transitioning into dirt roads so you will need to u-turn it at some point and come back from whence you came.

I'm sure one of the local experts will chime in and correct me if I'm off on any of my general vacinity distance guestimations; F6Banger, SCain, MrArn, Anyone???

Have you signed up and registered yet?

The ride up NM 63 from Pecos to that last drop off area for the horse trailers is 23 miles and that's where I would turn around. Lots of places to park and bathrooms for a quick break. This is a excellent riding road, it weaves into the mountains along the Pecos river and ends in a mountain meadow.
