R J, the good news is we're still using the same numbers that were commonly in use when you were in high school.  There's been no known effort to change that.  Just go back to using your high school math.

I too found that in the Marine Corps under some circumstances the numbers either didn't matter or were best ignored.   Wink

Better be glad you ain't got to use them common core numbers.  They are the same, but it takes waaaay longer to get the answer.  Smiley

The other night I was helping my grand daughter with this new math.

What a piece of crap that is.

But, can the kids today do it without a calculator? I mean to have to do math in their heads, is it possible?

With some, I'd say yes, with others, ain't no way in 4377, they can even make change without the cash register telling them the amount.    Then they have to take off their shoes to be able to count that high.

The best piece of education that I got out of high school happened when my solid geometry teacher set aside the curriculum for a week and taught the class the tricks to add and subtract in our heads.  Upon graduation I could add in my head faster than one could operate a calculator.  But the calculators in 1962 were a little different than those of today.  I'm not sure what I learned is even translatable to new math.  I don't mean blow my own horn here, but it infuriates me when I offer a casher some change from my right pocket and they look at you with this blank stare.

As much troble as I had trying to learn how, I'll never forget that little task.

My Grandma was a finikie old gal and it had to be exactly the way she wanted it or you kept trying till ya got it to her standards.   Love ya Grandma, ya taught me a lot, but it was to your standards.

My grandmother had a switch also.

It was grandpa's strap from his barber chair.

She knew how to use that thing also.

Them was the good old days.

Are you going to Inzane? I would really like to go this next year but I'm going to Sturgis again in 15. I will see if I can swing both but getting that much time away from  here may be a little tough? Like to meet some of you guys before I vapor lock.

I want to go, BUT, it is still in the air.

I've located a concentrator for travel and etc, but I'm fighting my insurance company now.       They don't want to pay for it, and I can't afford it out of my fixed income pocket right now.

Too much out of pocket expenses to overcome 1st.

Sorry Mr Jimmy T, but I won't be able to make IZ, now or future.

Dr restricts me from traveling over 150 miles from home.   Bummer, let me tell ya.

Yesterday, January 15, 2015, the Dr told me I will be needing Thyroid surgery in the VERY VERY near future.

When she said surgery, I QUIT listening.

This morning, January 16, 2015, I looked back in my surgery records and this will be # 289 for me since I joined the Marine Corps in 1950.  So, NO, I do not look forward to any surgery.    My understanding, they cut my throat, so to speak.

Everyone have a great day and a better week end.

Well, that sux!  I guess I will have to ride up there to your house to get to meet you.  Hot Glue knows the way, I've asked him.
Got a battery in the Wing and rode it around the neighborhood last night (Wednesday).  Getting her ready to sell.  I am going to look for a dual sport bike to do a little off roading.
Keep your chin up Marine and we will see you on the next post...
