Today I rode the Valkyrie south on the Saw Mill River and across the Tappan Zee Bridge.

At Nyack I got off and took 9W which has great river views down to Piermont and Sparkill NY

From there I took Oak Tree Road east into the historic district

George Washington had the headquarters at what is called the DeWint house  Old George pretty much slept everywhere he wanted in those days.

http://dewinthouse.com/

From there I continued to the 76 House.  It was where Major Andre' was held and where the trial took place before he was hung.
Major Andre received the plans for West Point from Benedict Arnold, who IMHO should have been killed and not Andre but Andre was the one got caught so he paid the price. His capture is an example of blind luck for US and a comedy of errors for Andre

Here is a link

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Andr%C3%A9

The place has been a restaurant and a stop on the bus line for years. I moved there in 1968 and everything is the same as it was when I was in 7th grade

Here down the road is the sign that shows where Andre had to walk to his execution.

But for the way the british had executed Nathan Hale, I have no doubt Washington would have spared his life. Indeed in the article is the reasoning which Andre could not argue. He wished to be shot but was hung. The account is in the article

The 'gallows' is now gone 1st a close up then one with the majestic Black and Pearl Beige machine

from there I went to say hi to mom for a few minutes then north on the Palisades for one of those
GIGANTIC corned beef on rye sandwiches  then home across the TZ Bridge to eat that monster while it was still warm  !

I did not have the willpower to take a pic of that sandwich but maybe someday

A great day to be out and in the wind of history

Hope y'all got out today

Like Red said, thanks for sharing that. I think a person can never have too much history or culture. That you could turn it into a Valk ride is all the better.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like I won't be back on the scooter till the 19'th so the ride pics and report are much appreciated. Combining riding and historical places makes it all the better.  cooldude

glad you enjoyed the report and pics

Next time I am thru that area I will try to get some stories about Camp Shanks up.

Camp Shanks was a major embarkation point for WWII soldiers

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_Shanks

Our back yard abutted a "secret" road and I would find spent shells, some coins and buttons etc  Now there is a giant power line that follows the road.

There was a giant radardome on Clausland Mountain that was taken down in the late 70's  Its where the minuteman missile battery and radar was for protecting NYC or West Point

This dome was directly east of my high school. We could sit on the hill and get "happy" and watch it

Never saw a Nike Missile up close though  kinda looks like epcot
