Just be careful with information from The Examiner. They've been known to be somewhat less than accurate with figures in matters concerning... well, pretty much anything.
Though this wouldn't surprise me.

I worked several floors below EX-IM bank in DC for many years (not to be confused with the World Bank). Following their proxy to help foreign countries and companies buy US goods and services, they have done some good for the US economy. But they are often strongly influenced by US politicians, and they have done some very bone headed deals as well. This seems like a case in point.
If GREEN can't make it on it's own (without scarce taxpayer resources), let GREEN fail. (before the loans, not after)

the Cinncinati Zoo installs $11 million solar panel project, it'll pay for itself in 78 years what a shock, solar panels don't last forever I moved to florida wondering why more people don't have solar panels, well I don't wonder anymore http://paulmetheney.com/cincizoo

Normally I agree, but this is a little different. The playing field is anything but level and the competition is so deeply entrenched and willing to do anything to protect their market that without any kind of assistance it's an NFL team Vs. a High School team. I have less of a problem withe the government subsidizing alternative energy than I do the way they've gone about it and the choices that have been made. Too much inside dealing and cronyism rather than due diligence and backing the appropriate technologies. They countered a tilted playing field by trying to make their own rules.

Not a new story the feds pay the farmers to not farm, corn farmers to produce corn for ethanol
that would nt make a profit if it weren't for the subsidies.
On the latter to foster renewables.
It is the same old stroy of politics getting inthe way of real progress.
Let the markets work and it will work out.
Don't and we all pay the price literally.

MP Backing up MP, Two of my brother in laws, big time Kansas Farmers, were so happy when they did away with the pay not to farm, known as "Soil Bank" around these parts, were losing money by not farming the land in Soil Bank, a required program by the feds. They got paid a pittance of what they could earn by farming the ground. It was along time ago, they were young struggling farmers then, have big operations now, not so young, doing well when the weather cooperates. Hoser

MP "...take highly erodible land and other environmentally sensitive cropland out of production by applying protective vegetative cover best suited for wildlife. In exchange, landowners receive annual rental payments for the land and cost-share assistance for establishing conservation practices."MP, that quote is from the North Dakota USDA CRP (Conservation Reserve Program) page. If you can't get paid to not farm I'd suspect you just don't have any "highly erodible" land.

If you can't get paid to not farm I'd suspect you just don't have any "highly erodible" land. Apples and oranges. "paid to not farm" refers to a different program, years ago, where you got paid to idle acres for one year, to be eligible for crop support prices. The CRP program is different. You are paid to enter land into at least a 10 year lease with the USA. You have to pay for seeding cover grasses, take care of noxious weeds, etc. In essence, you rent the land to the govt. The farm programs are VERY complicated. Many ideas over many decades. My personal preference would be for them to get out completely. But, food is such an important thing, we all like to eat!, that ALL politicians have to get their fingers in the pot. MP
