I'm the third owner of my recently purchased valk. The other day I found the name, address, and phone number of the first owner in the owners manual. My question is, if you were that first owner, would you want to know what happened to your bike if you had the chance? Thoughts?

yes, i contacted the previous owner of my bike and not only was he a nice guy he gave me some good insights about the bike. i'd like to return the favor.

No. If I sold the bike it would have been out of necessity, not because I wanted too. Seeing it would only bring back bad memories of having to sell it.

I don't see a down side. Tell him first that you bought the bike and then ask if he wants your info. If he doesn't, no problem. It's not like you stole his identity or anything. You might find out some valuable info about past maintenance or other history. I sold a 46 ford coupe a good many years ago and wish I knew where it is now.

I did this once, and the guy said he had a bunch of parts for the bike, including the OE exhaust (which later became a high demand discontinued item), and all I had to do was come get them for free.

When I got the Valk , I sold my mint condition 85 Wing to a very nice guy... paid my asking price, but had not ridden in a few years, so he asked me to ride it to his house about 60 miles away and he would give me a ride home. I had no problem..... until I got to the house.....
15 junk cars and trucks in the yard...assorted appliances...... weeds up to you A$$.....
He opened up the pole barn (about 24x40) and commented that he had made space for the new bike....
There was just enough space dead center in the double door opening to get the bike in and close the doors... I saw at least 5 bikes in pieces and rusting away..... the rest of the place was filled with old equipment and junk.....
I really dont want (and afraid) to know what happened.... I prefer to remember her as she was when I last pulled out of the garage for that last ride...... kinda like when some one passes away..... :
That being said.... I still talk to the guy that bought my 81 CB 900 Custom that I replaced with the Wing in 93... still looks showroom new like the day I sold it to him... he now has over 60k on it....

Why don't you try and look him up. I'd think that he'd appreciate the thought and most definitely would enjoy seeing his old bike, especially if you've taken good care of her. Many older folks live for their memories. You would be bringing a fond memory alive for him again. Just my opinion,,,. |

I don't think he wants to know, I bought the bike out of his estate the same year he died. I do think he would be pleased though, it's a nice I/S.

I stay in touch with the Original owner of my bike. I'm the second owner. Last year while going up to the mountains in TN/NC, I stopped in Cordele,GA to show it to him. I have added quite a bit of stuff to it. He sat on her, rode her down the street and back. Kind of had a sad but happy look on his face. He had to sell it in a divorce. You could tell he missed her..a lot! The guy that bought my Goldwing still emails me occasionally. He moved from Orlando to Charlotte, NC. The old Aspencade is still beautiful and well cared for. I like knowing that!!

My dad had this happen a few years ago. He had a '68 mustang and around '80 or so he sold it. Fast forward to about a year ago, and he gets a call from a guy in arizona asking him if he had ever owned a '68 mustang. Turns out that the guy that bought it moved to ariz. in the late '80s and passed away in 2009. The guy that called my Dad was the buyers son, who had found an old registration in the car when he pulled it apart to resto it after his dads death. You never know where things might end up.

Back in about 79 or 80, I traded my 72 Shaker Ranchero for something we could haul kids in. Wife wasn't working then and we only needed 1 car.
Some guy bought it and parked it from 70 or 80 until July 2011. I guess he needed some money and put it on Evil Bay.
A dealer of older cars bought it and had it shipped to Florida. He detailed the car and put it in an Auction. It had a reserve of $75,000 on it and the hammer fell at $92,500 and went to California. The guy in California found and old registration receipt in the Owners Manual.
He called me and asked how come it only had 28,000 miles on it, but still ran like a scalded dog. Told him it had 26,000 on it when I traded it off. He told me what he paid for it and I about crapped my pants.
Last time I talked to him, he was working on a deal with someone from France.

I don't know that I would bother. The guy I bought mine from told me he didn't get to ride all that often but had recently bought a VTX1800 and just didn't want the Valk any longer. Anyone who would give up a ride like mine would have to be off his rocker just a little and I don't think he would give a crap how the Valk was. Sad, so sad. |

I wouldn't want to know. I always try to look forward and until this motorcycle, all the rest were just "motorcycles". For the Interstate, I am the first owner and hope to keep it so long it's in my will! The Tourer will go back to my son once he has a proper place to keep it.
