'98 Standard, bought new in 2001 = 40th birthday present to myself.
Started naked, then bought Hondaline w/s and leather bags right away.
Added the I/S trunk and bags in 2004, I call her my "Tourerstate" now.

I didn't buy mine new, but it was almost new with just 390 miles on it.  It is a 1999 that the first owner bought as a leftover in March 2001.  He didn't like it and sold it to me in June that same year.

Bought my 03 new in a crate in April 04.  Dealer was out  and said he didn't think there were any more around, but started looking and found 4 in crates in San Antonio and I ordered one.

2000 Red/Blk Tourer

College Park, MD

« Reply #18 on: March 24, 2012, 08:48:27 AM »

I bought my 2000 Red/Blk Tourer in June 2000.  I had saved up a couple grand to have Lasik eye surgery, and at the last minute they decided I wasn't a good candidate for that procedure, so I was poking around the Honda shop in Laurel, MD, and saw a Valkyrie for the 1st time.
I said "Whoa what the heck is that", and I made them roll that thing out into the parking lot for a test drive, and the rest is history.  Money well spent.
One look at that bike and I knew it was gonna be fun.

Bought mine new off the showroom floor in June of 1997 at Zanotti's in Butler PA.  The ride home (back to Pittsburgh) was the first time I rode one and it was high adventure.

Had bypass surgery and read about the bike in April 97.    Got released and went directly to the dealership.

Found MGM (just rolled onto show room floor from the crate,) and traded the dealer straight across plus a 3 year extended warranty for my 94 Harley FLH**     Forgot the other letters now.

MGM currently has 242K+ miles and not an ounce of trouble outside of normal maintenance.

MGM in Sturgis in 1997.

Notice in the picture a front mud flap.

Harley traded in for MGM.   NO $$$$ exchanged hands for MGM out the door.   Typical picture of a Harley, this one anyway.

Saw a burple one pass me by either late 96 or early 97. The bug re-bit me after a few year lay-off from my 1100 Shadow.

Lived in NW Illinois then, shopped around, and got my 97 Black Beauty in April of 97, Sports City Honda Jacksonville, IL.

Had almost bought another 1100 Shadow. They had a beauty of a 97 Shadow Tourer, black of course, and it fit perfectly, like an old shoe. I climbed on the Valk for a couple thousand more... that was it.

When I picked up my 03 from the dealer it had 4/10 miles on it.
When it went to Motersickle Heaven in 07 it had 38,115 miles.
I certainly do WISH I still had it.

Picked up my 2000 I/S on March 3, 2000.  The day before, it was still in the crate.

I still have it, it's my main ride.  Seven or eight years ago I picked up a '97 Purple & White Std.  I still  have that one also.
