Duane Allman.

Allman Brothers Band - Statesboro Blues

This one below is Elvin Bishop sitting in with the Allman Brothers at the Fillmore East in 1970 or so.
This track didn't appear on the original double album set, guess there wasn't room. It's one of my favorites from the Fillmore East though.
THE A L L M A N BROS BAND - POOR DRUNKEN HEARTED BOY

Dickie Betts was/is good too but without Duane he never seemed to reach quite so high to me. Duane's band mates called him Skydog because of his soaring solos I think. I was gonna name my Valk Skydog but it seemed like bad karma since he died on his scooter. So, she's named "Little Martha" after an Allman Brothers instrumental.

Rory Gallagher is probably the greatest bluesman you've never heard of. From Ireland he never received the acclaim of an Eric Clapton or other British guitarists but he was great nonetheless.  It is widely quoted that when Jimi Hendrix was asked: "how does it feel to be the greatest guitarist ever?" his was reply was: "I dont know, you have to ask Rory Gallagher".  Hugely influential, He was a tireless tourer and a genuinely nice guy.. He would play 3 our concerts and then head to a local club and play hours more.  He was an insomniac and probably had a few too many Guinnesses, he developed liver problems and died from complications at a pretty young age and many of the greats do.

If you enjoy a hard rocking blues rocker.. check out Rory.  His favorite guitar was a '61 Strat and has certainly seen a lot of wear.. but all that tone was from Rory..
