Did they doctor or "edit" them? There's a difference though subtle. Though either can be used to subvert, editing may be perfectly acceptable under certain conditions.

I have no idea which one it was by the way, I'm asking. I haven't heard about this.

This looks pretty nefarious to me, I'd go with doctored, although technically it's edited. This was edited to change the meaning:

Quote
NBC's "Today" show ran the edited audio of George Zimmerman's phone call to a police dispatcher in which Zimmerman says: "'This guy looks like he's up to no good … he looks black."

But the audio recording in its entirety reveals that Zimmerman did not volunteer the information that Martin was black. Instead, Zimmerman was answering a question from a police dispatcher about the race of the "suspicious person" whom Zimmerman was speaking about.

A transcript of the complete 911 call shows that Zimmerman said, "This guy looks like he's up to no good. Or he's on drugs or something. It's raining and he's just walking around, looking about."

The 911 officer responded saying, "OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?"

"He looks black," Zimmerman said.

Well if true then that's still editing (as described). But the intent is the important thing (the term used to describe what was done is sort of irrelevant) here and the it certainly appears to be dastardly in nature.

I only asked out of curiosity.

Yeah pretty much.

For instance, an example of "doctoring" would be altering the audio in a way that changed what you heard. For instance adding a voice with another track and passing it off as original audio. Editing would be removing words and phrases but leaving the audio you DO hear essentially untouched.

If it helps, think of it like photographs. Cropping (but otherwise leaving alone) a photo would be editing. Altering the skin tone of a person in the photo would be doctoring. But either one could be put to use in a manner not ethical or moral.

Ahhhhh, the sin of omission rears it's ugly head. You can trust the network news organizations about as much as the politicians. I guess as long as we know the rules they play by we can get some nuggets of truth out of their broadcasts. This kind of crap didn't happen with Chet Huntley and David Brinkley, or Walter Cronkite for that matter.

This coming from the same network that a few years back put a "flare" under a Chevy truck and hit it with a car to "prove" the fuel tank would rupture in a side impact crash....

The only network I trust to give me the facts unaltered is FOX news......

Zimmerman didn't stand a chance at this not being his, racially motivated, fault.  After all he is,.....a white hispanic.

Lies by omission from NBC, and intentional hate race baiting by the NY Times.  All the news that fit to incite.

I am appalled to think this nation's media would do such a thing.
They have always been so upstanding in the presentaion of factual news, following the shining example of our nation's honest politicians.
Shocking.

What Zimmerman needs to do is get a hold of Richard Jewell's attorney. After the media sacrificed him for planting the bomb in Atlanta,  he got paid........an "undisclosed amount".   BTW, He was the one who found the bomb.............he didn't plant it.

I haven't watched ABC, CBS or NBC news since they tried to throw the election Gore's way by calling it a Gore win while the polls were still open. Maybe that wasn't their purpose but it seemed to me that it was.

But it actually works the other way around. That approach is far more likely to keep voters for the "winning" side at home.

Prematurely calling elections is just because the networks are whores and they all want to be first with the story.

I know, I've thought of it from both directions. But I still get my news elsewhere now.
