So I'm having a new roof put on and they should finish tommorow. Whats the chance I find a nail in the tire? I think I'll make sure they use that magnet thing extra good. Maybe I can get the wife to crawl around the drive way with me on a nail hunt. God I sure hope she didn't here that.

They replaced our roof a few months ago, and they spent a LOT of time with the magnet thing... Luckily I haven't found on in a tire (YET! Knock on wood!!) but I've found a dozen or so in the driveway and the grass around it, so..... It's definitely a good idea to go check yourself and keep your eyes open for the near future...

Had my roof replaced last summer. Have to agree that it's hard to reclaim all the nails that come-a-flying when stripping the old roof off. As good a job as they did I was finding nails after each rain. I suspect they hide in the gutters and get washed down.

Buy a metal detector so you can find the ones that have been stepped on and pushed down in the ground. The magnet may not be able to pick those up but they will surface with time. Not to mention you can strap it to the Valk drive to the beach at Lake Michigan and watch the bikini babes without being obvious this Summer, as you "treasure hunt". Don't forget the dark sunglasses so they can't see what your looking at.  coolsmiley

+1 on that, oh yah!  Family goes to the beach and I do some sight seeing - awesome.  If we ever get to Florida for a vacation to the beach, I don't think I will ever leave.  Kiss

Me and 2 other guys did our roof 5-6 years ago and couldn't believe how many nails I cleaned out of the eastrophes and in the yard/bushes.  Even a year later I still found some in the flowerbeds and bushes, darn things just kept creeping up from nowhere even after we used the magnetic roller.  It helps a lot if you have a concrete driveway since easier to see than gravel.  When you pull up that old shingled roof, be sure you have on thick soled work boots, got 2 stuck in the bottom and went thru my boot enough to prick me with little blood drawn - glad I wasn't wearing my crappy old tennis shoes those 2 days.
