I know Honda Motorcycles have taken the back door to their cars and “Other” tech (Jets, Robots) but Honda's ROOTS are motorcycles or motorbikes.

It burns my butt when I see the new Accord advertisement that starts with a picture of the first Accord and the announcer saying “What we created here”

It should show the Honda P-50 motorbike first with the statement  “What we started with here”

I'd never buy a Honda vehicle besides a cycle and only then a Valk or Goldwing, wouldn't buy any v-twins they offer now either.  There are better V-twins on the market that Honda is trying to copy cat from.

I thought the same thing when I saw that commercial .... I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Yamaha or Kawasaki take away Honda's number one spot in MC sales if they haven't already.

For several decades, ending somewhere around 2000, Honda was simply the best.  Every few years they'd bring out a stunning revolutionary design, like the CB750, Goldwing, CBX, Interceptor V4, oval piston race bike, Valk, and others I can’t think of right now.  Every MC magazine would have their latest bike on the cover.  Last week I talked to a sales guy who used to work for Lakewood (CO) Honda, which was the largest Goldwing dealer in the world for a few years.  He recalled a Saturday where he delivered 11 new Wings.  Honda dominated the motorcycle business in nearly every way.

But I doubt that many people who worked for Honda during those glory days are still around.  It just isn't the same company any more.  Even their cars are slipping.  Not only did they drop their 2 sports cars, now even some in the automotive press are criticizing their cars for not keeping up with the competition from Korea, Germany, and the U.S.A.  It sure is sad to see, but it happens to lots of great, innovative companies.  Remember Polaroid?

I've heard that Mr. Honda was concerned this might happen, and even tried to put some policies in place to prevent it.  Oh well.

I see it as Honda motorcycle division is idling right now.  The question is how long will they idle and then either turn off the ignition or put it in gear.

I think that they will just shut it down.  Nothing remarkable coming from them and they would really have to run WOT to catch up.

I don't feel they will shut down, Honda has way too much invested.  They will let the US market idle, as they have been for years since pulling the Gold Wing machining and tooling out of Marysville.

They have 10 different Scooters for sale in the UK, and many more interesting things going on there, in the motorcycle market.

It's like they have conceded the US cruiser market to HD and V-twin wanna-b's.  Honda never really seemed to have their heart in the VTX, as it shows after deep-sixing the 1800.  About the only V-twin I’d consider, except maybe a Gussi.

I quess there are only so many people out there that want performance, reliability, smooth operations, great looks and value, like the people on this board want.  And not to many of us, compared to the whole rider market out there.  Too many riders would rather pose, than ride.

They just showed off the MUGEN Shinden at the SES TT Zero, an electric road racer, at the Isle of Man.  So they are doing new things in motorcycles, just not here.
