I rarely ride at night 'cause of all the deer around here.
I got caught out after dark:30 and wanted to try the brights, holy bovine batman those are bright!!! Shocked
Switched back to normal and no lights at all. Shocked
Switched back to brights so I could see (I'm in town blinding people Embarrassed) switch back to normal still nothing but dark.
Did this a few times and finally the lights came back on without being on brights.
Does the switch need cleaned?
Both bulbs were replaced last fall with Silvania Silverstars and the bulb adaptors.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Sounds like the switch to me at least I would start their clean and lube and see what happens. I doubt that it is the relay especially if you play with the switch and they come on.

Bulb adapters are here....   http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H4-Bulb-Adapter-Rings-for-Honda-GL-1500-GL1500-Valkyrie_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem5881504655QQitemZ380126643797QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

They claim to let the H4 Bulb fit and aim properly.  I have em on mine and they work great (never tried without it tho).  I also have Silverstars and its bright.

The Honda bulbs are 45w/45w.  If you install bulbs that are a higher wattage, they are sure to be brighter.  So that begs the question: what wattage Silverstars did you install?

I have the Silverstar 9003ST on my VTX and of course 2 on my Valkyrie I/S.   Low Beam is 55 and High is 60 Watts, with no adverse effect to either bike.  The Color Temp is 4000k, and some have compared them to HID.  They have "ULTRA" Silverstars out now that Sylvania claims .....
"SilverStar ULTRA headlights provide up to 25 percent increased down road visibility, increased side road visibility and up to a 20 percent brighter light, compared to standard halogen headlights. They also last up to 30 percent longer than regular SilverStar headlights."

Info on the Ultras can be read here...    http://www.sylvania.com/AboutUs/Pressxpress/Pressnews/PressArchive/2006/SilverStarUltra.htm

I will get ULTRAS for my next set......    the older we get the more light we seem to need I guess.
