I want to check the pilot settings on my IS. Reason being the PO had a non Honda dealer do something to the carbs from what I gathered. I might have a slow jet clogged but wanted to go over the pilots first to verify they are set right.
I got a Stubby Pilot Screw Tool from Redeye. I checked the back two carbs and one was at 2.25 out. The other was less then 1 out making me want to check the rest. I need take the PODS off for the rest. Even so they don't look easy to get at.
Has anyone removed the intake runners to get better access to the pilot. Last year I did replace the intake runner O-ring from Redeye. Not sure if I pull the runners if I will need to replace the O-rings again. Or should I just work at it without removing the intake runners.

It certainly seems as though has been screwing with those pilots.. They are generally originally set at 1.75, but, run best at 2.25, that is, if the low jets have not be changed to 38s.. You should be able to get at all of them without removing the intakes, but, removing them only takes a couple extra minutes.. I'd recommend changing the o-rings though.. Cutting a slot in the pilot for a screwdriver and adding a dab of never-sieze to the threads makes this job easier if it ever has to be done again..

I wanted to check for dirty carbs, so I removed the whole carb bank. I had a local machanic sync my carbs and make all adjustments earlier. My bike was running rich, if I started it in the garage, my clothes and body reeked with the smell of gas. I adjusted the pilots from lightly seated to 2.25 turns out and she purrs like a kitten without that rich smell. The carbs were clean upon inspection, change all intake o-rings and vacuum hoses. Good luck.

If you are riding and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

Cef2lion after you get your pilots adjusted, consider a carb synchronization.

I changed all vacuum lines last summer while it was aprt getting painted. Did the Intake O-rings as well. Wishing I would have just pulled the bank then and gone over it since it was so far apart at the time.
A sync is on my list after the pilots but I need to round up something to sync it with. No one local that I know of.

No need to pull the carb bank, just remove the two center intake runners. You can then have access to all the pilot screws and if the o-rings on the removed intakes aren't damaged, just reuse them.
Be conservative and try two full turns out from seated.

Good idea on the center runners. Wonder if you can reach front pilot that way without pulling the IS Pods. There kind of a pain getting off and on with the fog lights in there.

Depends upon the quality of your tools and the size of your hands. ***
