I went back to a bike tire on the VAlk this morning. So....if anyone wants the Austone Taxi tire at a good price, PM me or email at aeadie@sc.rr.com. Tire is low mileage and in perfect condition.

My Austone just delivered today....    What made you want to switch back to a moto tire?

I don't need a tire for a while, just wondering how many miles you put
on it before switching back. Was this your first Darkside? What did you
see as pro or con about it?

Based on my experiences and those others have told me you should do about 1000 miles on a DarkSide tire before making your decision.  You have to give the sidewalls time to break in then start lowering your air pressure.  I've run both of mine at 40 psi and dropped the pressure to approximately 30 psi.

I have tried a CT 3 times. This time the Austone was the best handling one of the 3. However, there were a few handling quirks that I didn't like with it. I put around 2000 miles on the tire before removing it this morning. No big problems, I just felt more confident with a bike tire. I know that there are many who like a CT and have ridden on them for years. I think that I have finally decided....for the last time...that they aren't my cup of tea. That being said, let those who like them, ride and enjoy them.

At least you gave it a fair shot, three times.  It isn't for everybody.

I've run a car tire on my I/S for several years now and it does have a few positive attributes.
However whenever my front Avon Cobra wears out I will replace both with the new Avon Venoms.

My 98 std. has a set of Venoms and I'm quite impressed with the handling and especially the mileage/wear.

I have strength and coordination issues due to health and previous surgeries, and a C/T makes it just a bit harder for me to use my I/S. I love my Valks and would use my I/S more if it was easier to manauver.

LOL, I'm just the opposite of most of you!! I'll probably replace my
GYTT late this year or early next....but my independent bike shop
no longer mounts car tires!! If I can't find one within a reasonable
distance that will I might try a Metz 200....not by choice!

Take it to any tire shop and tell them it's for a custom trailer. They'll mount it. Just stay away from Dealers, they won't mount it. I had my last CT mounted at an independant shop...no questions, just laughs and $37.00.

I thought Avon stopped making Valkyrie size Venoms when they introduced the Cobras.

Would love to....but I don't got no bike lift or any safe way to leavr the Valk
up in the air whilst I take the tire off. Add to that the fact that I'm not the
best in the world with a wrench in my hand!! I have plenty of time to look
around for a "car tar mounter". cooldude

I also went back to a MC tire after giving a Michelin HydroEdge 205/65 a 5000 mile try. I would say that how a Valk with a CT handles depends on what you call "normal".  If "normal" handling is how the Valk was delivered, with a MC tire, then a CT DOES handle very different. My experiences were BIG difference low speed/parking lot handling and no difference above that or at highway speeds. I did like the better rear braking & wet weather performance of the CT but in the final analysis the CT is a no go for me. I'm sure a different CT would change my perception some.
Thanks Art for the your honest opinion of a tire I am considering for next time out.  cooldude

I can't stay silent any longer.  I am a believer in the Valkyrie as is.  If you want to ride a car tire drive your car.  If you want more speed ride a Hayabusa.  If you want more horse power ride a Boss Hoss.  If you want the best motorcycle ever built ride your Valkyie as is.  Don't screw around with it, just ride it.

My I/S has had a Cobra on it about the same time as Avon intoduced the Venom line.

It's a Honda......

Honda made the Valkyrie as the end to all.

Fundamentalism is at the base of it all and the norm.

Modification is the exception and practiced by a small minority.

It's within that group where the bulk of problems arise.

I've been thinking of trying a car tire (despite being convinced for YEARS that it was only for cheap, chiseling pricks who didn't know any better) but I probably won't need a rear until next year.

I applaud your candor in self recognition of who and what you are! It is a milestone in recovery as proclaimed by many nationally known groups commonly referred to as "anonymous"

I only post this as a protest against the profanity you express, to which I vehemently object.

My riding pal from the choo choo just put a car tire on his new Kawasaki Vaquero. He loves it. He said it's a better feeling having more than a quarter size circumference on the highway. His tire that came with it only got 4k and was ready to blow.  The Vaquero also uses 205/60/16. He said the same thing everyone else said when he bought it. "I don't think it will fit." Lol
I bought a bridgestone a few weeks ago from the junkyard. $37.50 out the door. I rode with him and his wife all the way to key West and back a couple of weeks ago. We took the long way and he set his cruise at 83mph. Over 2k and not a hiccup

Dave G, I'm sorry you can't take it anymore but I really don't see what I do to my bike is any of your concern or should give you any problems. I've ridden my custom valk for over 100k now with it's airfow pipes, car tire and car cruise control without so much as a problem. Oh I also have the ultimate seats and backrest, and highway pegs. It's is my bike after all. You have stepped on alot of toes and some of them are pretty big. Enjoy your bike and we'll enjoy ours.

I've ran about 35 K on a GYTT and like it..But haveing said that, I didn't like it untill I got the psi tuned in and....
-It seemed to accentuate the fact that the shock buskings needed to be replaced
-However, I bought progressive shocks for the stiffer springs and found out that the orginal shocks were actually worn out.
Now I love the CT!!!
I could have given up and said it handled poorly,,,but the real issue was the tire psi and shocks.

Dave G.,   I wouldn't give it a thought.

You can plainly see there are those whose only contribution is to find fault with what others say.

I happen to agree with you on the value of the Valkyrie, while others strive to criticize and complain.

Chalk it up to old age and failing health in their waning years. They have to lash out to feed their ego.

Dave I'm sorry but I don't see anything technical about your opinion. All I see is your opinion. Which you are certainly intitled to have. I too love my bike and having had it over 9 years now I do feel I have a better idea of what my valk can do and means to me. I'm not trying to flame anybody just don't like being told what I need to do with my bike. Like I said before enjoy your bike and I'll enjoy mine.
