I'm coming back from a So Cal trip and staying over in Globe Az for the night.

I thought I'd take in Hwy 191 on my return home trip in the a.m., maybe include a stop in Pie Town.

The question: should I take hwy 70 down to the Safford and Clifton area to head up from there?
Any must see, do or stops?

Thanks. cooldude

Yes: Go down to Safford, Clifton, Morencie and then go up to Alpine. Then North to Springerville and East to Pie Town. It's 150 miles from Springerville to Socorro so watch your fuel. You'll have to stop at the VLA (Very Large Array). It's where Jodie Foster filmed Contact. It's the deep space listening station. Take your time on 191 (Devil's Highway) as there's many stops for photo opps. Some of those 1st gear hairpins sneek up on you.

I just noticed you're from Northern NM. You might want to take 191 North and turn East to go through Zuni (Indian Res). On that road is the El Morro Nat Monument. It's a pretty ride and avoids 25 North out of Socorro.

I have stayed overnight in Globe, There is one really fine Mexican restaurant there, and the Motel 6 is the biggest one I have ever seen. I've also been to pie town, are you not going to see the VLA Telescopes farther West on US 60?.  I've also ridden US191 up to IS 70 a bunch of times.  You are going to have a great trip no mater which way you go. If you take 191 North and you go thru Bluff Utah, that's a great place to stay overnight. There is a wonderful steak house "Cottonwood Steakhouse" and a great motel there, Desert Rose Inn, Not to be believed. I know nothing about Hwy 70, but I do like Hwy 60 across Arizona to I-25 in New Mexico. Good luck on your trip....
