Good day everyone, I have a 02 standard with 14k miles, I had just replace the coolant about 2000 Miles with ENGINE ICE coolant, and today when I check the reserve tank the bottom of the tank has lots rust settlement, is this normal with only 2000 mile after replacing the coolant? What should I do? Should I replace the coolant again, and what to do to prevent rust from forming up in the radiator?

Thanks in advance

It is doubtful that it is rust.  Most all antifreeze contain corrosion inhibitors.

If there's been a long interval between changes, a simple clean water flush would be helpful.

Rinse the line to the tank too.

I wouldn't worry about it generally.

I'd clean the tank, simple enough!

Then keep an eye on it to see what transpires.

I've never heard of "Engine Ice Coolant"

I never heard of "Engine Ice" coolant either.  Hope it doesn't have any dreaded silicates. Sad Sad

Engine Ice is Googleable item. It's a superior coolant for engines.

Folks that I know use it for sport bikes on track days.

"6. Advanced and Intermediate group riders must use water, water wetter or a non-ethyl glycol based anti-freeze/coolant. Approved Poly Glycol brands are: Evans, 7th Gear, Liquid Performance, and Engine Ice. Automotive ethyl glycol based coolants are not allowed."

Cant have slippery stuff like ethyl glycol dripped on the track.
Regular antifreeze was a no no back in my car road racing days.

Ive wanted to use Engine Ice in the Valk myself to reduce the felt heat.
Since Im new to the Valk and the amount of heat mine throws off is sometimes uncomfy commuting.
But its so darned expensive.

Remove the tank. Wash it as best you can with mild soap. If you want it to look almost like new,
submerge it in White Vinegar overnight.  Wink
In the morning, wash it again. It should look close to like new and w/-no calcium or oxidation marks on the inside. Smiley

agree, wash the coolant reservoir tank out.  Did you do that when changing coolant?

I did the coolant change first time 3 years ago and it was overdue since OEM coolant was in my I/S from 2001 to 2009 but low mileage from previous owner of 14,000 miles is all.  There was a bunch of gunk in the reserve tank and glad I took the reserve tank off and cleaned the inside out real good.

Paxton, thanks for the advice, done what you suggest, vinegar with distill water in the radiator let it set over night and drain, replace with new coolant.  Ran the bike this morning and notice the oil dip stick temperature drop about 10 degrees.. Can't believe the dirty gunk and rusty settlement had such big effect in the engine temperature...  Thanks Paxton btw if you are in so California can you recommend any good Valkyrie mechanic?  Thanks

corcoran;
CYCLE DEPOT on Colorado Blvd, Eagle Rock, L.A.  Smiley They work mostly on Sport bikes.

I've only have taken her in for replacing front and rear (DARKSIDE) tires, but would not hesitate having them do other services. Smiley
They did the same w/my VTX1800R.

Google them and read the reviews. I like the fact that they let me watch closely as the work is gettin' done. Lips Sealed
Been there twice. Each time the bill was somewhat lower than first quoted. cooldude Super-friendly guys.

BTW, I am in Glendale. I need to go riding more often but don't know any Valk owners nearby. Sad
I am also a boring old dude, and the word has gotten out! 2funny

Moreover, my riding usually begins after 1:00 PM; not convenient for most people. Sad

Actually, when I go out, I take it slow... like 65-70 on the freeways; 35-40 on the twisters... Embarrassed
Most folks want to go faster and I don't blame them.  Undecided

I just have too much respect for the machine and my riding abilities are far from what they used to be! Roll Eyes
