The plug is shown on page 6-13 of the shop manual, but not identified. It looks like an oil drain plug. When I took it out, some oil drained out. Was that oil from the crank case or something else? I found the part number on a drawing at Honda Parts Direct. Part number of the plug is 90048-MN5-000.

Per parts micro fiche:
BOLT, SEALING (20MM) 90048-MN5-000
Sounds like a bolt (plug) used to seal a hole either used in machining the block or allowing access to a internal fastener. Either way if oil came out when it was removed, it obviously seals a hole in the crank case. Just curious, why did you remove it?

Only doing my second oil change on the Valk. In a hurry, looked under there, saw that plug, thought it was the drain plug. Removed it and only about a cup of oil drained out. Hum, where is the other three and three quarters, quarts of oil. NOW, I check my manual, wrong plug. Next question, what did I just drain? Thus the orgional post.

Ooh-ooh, I know this one... to get to the other side. Hey, I had that same thought. However, I was rased to be honest. The only people that never screw up, are the people that never do anything!

Don't know what was Honda's original reason for putting the hole there. Might be a port to attach a gauge for checking oil pressure. That it what Motosens uses it for. If you get a Motosens oil pressure gauge, you have to get a oil pressure sending unit/and mount for the sending unit. The mount threads in there.

ptgb, and everyone else, thanks for the information! For a while there, I thought I may have left all the upsadaysium (Rocky and Bullwinkle) out. I guess there was no harm, no foul!

I guess there was no harm, no foul! Don't forget to check your oil level. Sounds as if you might be "about a cup" low.

I wonder if that could also be used with an oil gauge using the small plastic hose to read oil pressure

Two days after reading this thread I was changing my antifreeze for the first time, guess which plug I took out. lol. I remembered seeing that it was a 10mm bolt in the docs. The water pump drain is 10mm, this is a 10mm Allen bolt. As soon as it started draining, this thread was my first thought.
