Day 5 Eureka Springs to Hinton, OK with Stan....Afton Station and Route 66
Another early rise!! What a surprise. This time up at 4:00AM!!
Awoke to an incredible star filled sky near Beaver Lake. Still dark, but I had plenty on the schedule. Packed up, made some breakfast, and was on the road at 5:47 AM. Toughest part of the journey was leaving the cabin, as it was about a 2 mile trek down gravel. Worst part was leaving the cabin, as it was downhill on freshly laid big rock. Trying to go slow with a 250 pound trailer was to say the least, a bit unnerving. But I prevailed, and was soon on 62 near the White River. The sun was just starting to show, so I headed just about a mile South to get this shot.

Heading towards Bentonville on US 62, it was a chilly morning. About 47 degrees. Had I not known it was going to quickly warm up, I would have dug out the face mask. About 20 miles out of town, the sun was now on the Horizon, so I stopped for another quick sunrise shot.

About 30 miles later, was in Bentonville, and stopped at the McD's for more coffee and Wifi. Left about 8:00am, and traveled North on US 71 towards Nesosho, MO, and picked up Route 60 into Afton, MO. Afton is one of the many small Route 66 towns, but it has a very special place called Afton Station. A very nice Route 66 museum and home to over 20 Packards!!

A bit of a drive from Eureka, but a nice ride and an idea for an Inzane day....
Stan D Cool arrived about 10:30, and we commenced our Route 66 Journey. First stop was in Vinita at Clanton's Cafe. Great Chicken Fried Steak, but the salad was lame!! Iceberg lettuce should not be legal!! Continued west and stopped at a few interesting places.......
The Avon Courts, (or remants) in Afton, OK...

The Chelsea Bridge....

The Chelsea Motel..

And of course the Catoosa Whale........And yes, that is Stan D Cool on the fin!! It is really large!! Or he is really small....

So many interesting and quirky things to find and see on Route 66, it is a must trip. This is my fourth journey along the Diagonal Highway, and it is always a pleasure to ride the old road.....
This is the remains of the Tee Pee Drive Inn near Sapulpa....

And a very cool motorcyle museum near ????? It is called the Seaba Station, a former D-X Service Station. Best thing of all, not a single Harley!!!

A very unique outhouse in the rear........

And the tank wall

Continued West and had our first meeting with a County Sheriff. We had encountered some slow moving traffic, and I don't care for that. I was in the lead and took off. Three cars and a big wrecker to pass. No problem.......About a mile later, the flashing red and blue lights appeared. Cop came out, told us it was a friendly warning and he had us at 86mph. And it is illegal to speed to pass. I wanted to say, 86???? That's pretty good hauling a trailer!!!
Soon were in Arcadia, (and do not speed through that town....Probably the #1 speed trap on Route 66) where the Big Red Barn is located.

It was getting late, we were tired and hot so bypassed OKC and headed to Hinton, OK where I am camping at Red Rock State Park. Pretty nice place.

It is now about 11:20, and I'm ready to crash!!!
Destination tomorrow is Amarillo.........
