My 02 standard has never had any clutch problems after 135000 miles but lately it seems that it dosen't grab until the last1/2 inch of travel of the handle.Am I paranoid about this or is it normal? I'm pretty sure there is no adjustment and if there is a problem dose anybody have any ideas? The fluid has been changed and I'm pretty sure that there is not any air in the system.Thanks.Art

These usually don't release until the lever is almost fully released.. So,, it seems like yours has changed ???  If the clutch is still acting OK except for that,, I'd look at the lever and bushing..

See if we understand each other. If I'm sitting still and in gear while holding the clutch lever all the way ,When I start to release it the bike will not move until  the lever is almost all the way out with just 1/2 " to go.I would think that it would start to grab about half way.The bushing has been replaced about three months ago.Art

I would guess your friction disks are have a bit of wear.  In time you'l need to replace them.  If the clutch isn't slipping you should be ok for a while.

Heck, you're Ok.

The hydraulic clutch is self adjusting so there is nothing to do but to use it.

The more you use it the better it will work, consistently.

How you describe the action with the lever is identical to how it should be, and being that way, is what allows the transmission to be shifted smoothly and without dragging.

Your posts are a bit confusing,, at least to me anyway.. Has the point of engagement   changed ??  These don't engage or release until near the end/limit of the travel.. So as long as the clutch operation is correct and smooth and there is some free-play then its working as it should..
