Hello, I just signed up.
Im from Mexico, i dont ride a valky but a friend of mine just bought a 99 . since his english is 0% and has no computer knowledge I'm here to ask all his questions. i usually help him out with the mechanical stuff.

Right now the bike is running fine but we have a couple of questions
1 Is there a free service manual that we can download for this bike?

2 we're going to change oil and filter, How much it will need?

3 is the fifth gear, an overdrive? if it is, is there a light for it?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome.

To start here is a link to the shoptalk section of the board.  There is a lot of useful info here. A lot of answers can be found here and you don't have to wait for an answer. You will want to look at Carl Kulow's  Maintenance  page.  They are very well written.

Direct answers to your questions.
1.  Have a look here you might be able to find a huge pdf manual
http://valkyrienorway.com/

2. One filter and 4 quarts or 4 liters of oil (3.7l by the book). Do not use an energy conserving oil.

3.Technically yes.  It is a .805 gear ratio but it still has a lot of a power.  There is no light for 5th or any gear.

Hope this helps, you and your friend ride safe.

Bienvenidos!

Dag's Valkyrie Norway website is one you should bookmark for future reference.  There is lots of useful information there.  The service manual pdf file is a 151MB zip and is the last link under "Technical" on the left column.

Or, hit http://www.valkyrienorway.com/1520manual/valkyriegl1500.zip

As you get into repairs or maintenance, ask if anything isn't clear. That's what we do here. As a fellow VRCCer told me when I bought my first Valk, now your friend has the right bike...you do too.  cooldude
