Started my valk yesterday. runs fine as long as you manually turn the throttle handle up. Let go of the handle and the idle gets so low the engine shuts off. Drove the bike and it runs fine but when comming to a stop I have to give a little throttle to keep it from stopping. Tried adjusting the throttle adjustment, screwed the two screws in all the way and still doesn't keep the RPM up. A man looked at it that wants to buy it and he said the carbs needs to be cleaned out due to sitting in the garage. I thought that was strange because I rode the bike to work every day last summer with no problems. Started it up all winter every two weeks to run it through the winter like I have done every year since 2000. Worked fine two weeks ago. Just need some of your guys great advice again to make sure this guy is not scamming me. I really don't know if I want to sell it or not. Thanks.

I'm not sure which screws you're adjusting but have you tried the idle adjustment knob on the right side behind the intake tubes?

How could this fella be scamming you ?? I don't know which screws you are playing with, but, the idle speed adjustment screw is the dark gray plastic knob between the intake runners on cylinders 1 and 3 [ throttle side]..

Put a whole can of Seafoam in the tank and ride it, then add another can and fill it with fresh gas and ride the hell out of it.

Burn the old fuel out of the tank and get a fresh tankful.

I'm betting you turned the carb sync screws instead of the idle adjustment, and have now totally hosed your synchronization. Try a full bottle of Seafoam/Techron in your next tankful, then try to find someone to help sync the carbs.

Your getting it from all sides. ??? Instead of burning the old gas, siphon it out and then add the seafoam and fresh gas. Put the old gas in the car. Try changing the idle adjustment by screwing in the knob between #1 and 3 intakes clockwise to increase the rpm. If that works, go back put those "screws" where they were. Good luck!

If they were the sync screws, you may have to synchronize your carbs.

Thanks guys for all your help. The two screws I adjusted wrong for the idle adjustment was not on the carbs. It was on the left side and the only way to see them is to have someone turn the throttle handle. The two screws were on the throttle linkage on the left side. I have adjusted them back to approximately where they were. Will look in my service manual to see what they are and how to properly adjust them back if needed. I did find the idle adjust. I adjusted it successfully. I will siphon out all my old gas, put new in and put the Sea Foam in it. It's possible that I may have to set the idle down after running the Sea Foam for awhile. Thanks to you guys many times over for your help.

You may also have a vacuum/air leak, have a good look at all the hoses and nipples on the intake runners, tighten the carb intake runner boot clamps.

...The two screws were on the throttle linkage on the left side. I have adjusted them back to approximately where they were...The left side??? The only thing on the left side is the choke. The throttle linkage is on the right side. Just in case your a newbie, orientation is as if your sitting on the bike. Not trying to be a smart ass just trying to helpful. Most importantly, it sounds like your making great progress.
