Being that this spring,...there are so many smells in the air. We've all been down a lonely road and have had our nostrils bombarded by so many blossoms and scents that you just can't seem to distingush one from the next be cause there are sooo many?

The wild flowers are blooming every where and the fruit trees in the orchards cause you to seriously (momentarily) to be distracted. The scent of freshly turned soil and cut grasses fills your olfactory senses.

I can't ever remember seeing as many birds as this spring. Countless blackbirds perched on cattails, egrets in the wetlands, geese an ducks in every pond, crows feeding on roadkill on the side of the road. The countless swallows swooping across the lane and sounds of sparrows, jays and robins every where you look and listen.

This of course seemed to heighten my senses, however I was just motoring along a farm lane when a doe ran out just in front of me. I was startled and I became fixated on the deer just several feet from my front wheel and the gap was closing rather quickly. I let off the throttle and as if in slow motion,....the deer saw me and I could sense it's panic. Its eyes opened wide and the muscles tensed as it sped up to into the middle of the road......We missed each other but I felt that the deer and I were both paying more attention to the world around us than what our missions were at that point in time.

I thought it was quite strange that at the point in time that my world went into a state of slowed suspension, but it also made me more aware of what could have happened, and that we are like all animals.
Animals react to their surroundings, sometimes distracted by their surroundings, attention spans momentarily lapse due to environmental factors.

Death could have come instantlyand without a moments notice. However there must be a greater force that drives the universe. That force did not want death today,...it wanted both of us to enjoy the beauty of this spring day. That force wanted both to see, to smell, to bask in the sun, to live untill our time is right to pass on.

I agree with you on the different floral odors out there this spring.  Went for a ride last week and enjoyed the same thing.

We’ve had a lot of oriels this summer and last.  Don’t understand why.  I’ve got a humming bird feeder that an oriel use to feed out of, that is until the rabid little hummer chased it away!!  I can still hear it singing in the back yard everyday.

That’s one thing I love about riding my cycle, the smells, and the scenery.  Here in Wisconsin sometimes the smells aren’t that good, usually while passing a dairy farmer that’s pumping liquid $hit all over the fields….. but for the three to four months of riding a person can get here in this state, you have to take the good with the bad….

....Hey George

I agree....there is nothing like cruising into the deep woods in the midst of spring, and taking in all the aweet aromas and sensory overloads, that Mother Nature has to offer. Its one of Chili and mine favorite times of the year to ride. We can ride out of town, and were immediately in the deep woods, with all wonderful scents and awakening animals, its a beautiful ride. We were headed up to Mackinaw City last summer by way of all back roads, and RT 119. We cruised through one tiny town nestled along side a lake...it was raining litely, off and on, and there was a fine mist in the air. Suddenly our nostrils were filled with one of the most sweetest, back woods aromas Ive ever experienced. Chili and I agreed, how great it would be to live there, and be able to experience that kind of thing on a regular basis.

Thanks for comming to our Q bro....it was great seeing you and Pam again, after such a long winter. And next time you,re looking for a long scenic ride, give us a call. We,ll take ya up to Rt 119....using all back roads.

....Hey Alph

Chili and I have been into birding for a few years now. She has numerous kinds of feeders around the yard, to please a variety of species. As for Oriels, try putting a small dish of grape jelly out on the porch. We have one sitting in a shallow dish, filled with water, to keep the ants out. Oriels LOVE grape jelly....we have a pair that are comming back for their 3rd year now. The first year, they made their hanging basket nest in our front yard. I have some great pics of their young, as they spread their wings for the first time, and flew down into the bushes surrounding our home. The following year they returned, but to our dismay, built their nest elsewhere. They returned about 2 weeks ago again. They built their nest elsewhere, but they come to our porch everyday....multiple times a day...to eat their fill of jelly. I call the female ...my lil jelly whore...cuz she comes and hang out for 3 or 4 minutes everytime, gulping down copious amounts of grape jelly.

....heres a shot of the male I got last year.
